Donald Walker Obituary

Donald Walker
July 1,1941 - September 15, 2024
Donald Walker, a beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away on September 15, 2024, in Mannheim, Germany, after complications from an e-bike accident, while walking in Amsterdam, during a European riverboat cruise with his wife, Sandi. He was 83. Born in Jersey City on July 1, 1941, Don moved to Madison CT, in 1974, with Sandi and their children, Robyn and Scott. Madison was their home until 2011, when they relocated to Port Charlotte, FL. Don had an adventurous and active life. After joining the submarine service in high school, he switched to the Marines in college, later attending flight school in Pensacola. He qualified to fly both fixed wing aircraft and helicopters. While serving as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam, he was awarded the Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts. Don retired from the Corps as a major and enjoyed a 30-year career as a commercial pilot, first with Eastern and then with Continental.
Don was immensely proud of his children. Robyn followed his military path, becoming a naval officer and doctor, and Scott achieved great success in healthcare as the CFO of Point 32Health. Don found joy in supporting his children's activities, coaching Scott's soccer and baseball teams, attending Robyn's horse shows, and cheering his grandchildren at cross-country meets and soccer games. A lifelong sports lover, Don enjoyed sailing, tennis, golf, and spending time with friends at the Riverwood Tennis Association and Golf Club in Florida. Don and Sandi, who met in high school, recently celebrated 60 years of marriage. He will be deeply missed by his wife, his children, Robyn (Tom) and Scott (Emily), his grandchildren, Issac, Joseph, Libby, and Edie, and his many dear friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, Oct. 27, from 2 PM-5 PM at the Riverwood Activity Center. Burial with military honors will take place at Arlington National Cemetery, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your favorite Veterans Organization.
Don's kindness, strength, and adventurous spirit will always be remembered.

Donald was my first boyfriend when I was 15. We lived in the Duncan projects and attended Snyder high school. Many fond memories. We actually did go to Roosevelt drive in, in the trunk of a car. He was great fun. Back then he was called Whitey.
Rest in peace,
