Efstathios Simos Obituary

SIMOS, EFSTATHIOS Efstathios Simos, 77, of 245 Center St., West Haven passed away April 30, 2012 in Yale New Haven Hospital. He was the husband of Dimitra Simos. Mr. Simos was born in Mytilene, Greece on Nov. 19, 1934, son of the late Panagiotis and Irene Simos. He came to this country in May 1968, worked in several factories and owned and operated West Haven Market. He served as cantor at St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church for more than 40 years, a talent he developed at the age of 15. He was a member of Chapter 98, Order of AHEPA. Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Peter E. (Mirsini) Simos of West Haven; a daughter, Eleni (John) Stardellis of Orange; two sisters, Maria (Anthony) Marnerakis and Mrs. Efstratia (Gregory) Gerakelis, both of West Haven; 4 grandchildren, Irene, Efstathios, Napoleon and Stathi; as well as six nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, George P. Simos. Friends may call at The Celentano Funeral Home, 424 Elm St. (cor. Dwight) New Haven Friday from 4 to 8 pm and are invited to attend funeral services at St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church, 480 Racebrook Road, Orange Saturday at 10:00 am. Interment in Orange Center Cemetery.

In the many yrs that we attended early orthos service in St Barbara, Stathi always respectively stopped over to us to give us a Kali Mera hug & chat before he took his place as psalti. He was a kind man and will be missed.
