GEORGE BURNS Obituary

George Raymond Burns, Jr., 86, beloved father of Kelley Meadows (Eric Volkmann) of Green Oaks, IL, and Edward S. Burns (Lisa) of Orange, grandfather of Amanda, Gerry, and Cynthia Burns, all of Orange, brother-in-law of John Cowan of Stratford, and Edward Sullivan of Orange, predeceased by his wife, Ann Burns, his parents George R. Burns, Sr. and Cecelia Flannery Burns, his sister, Ann Eleanor Sullivan, and a son, George R. Burns, III, passed away peacefully at his home in Orange, CT on Thursday, July 20th, after a long illness. A 1950 graduate of Hillhouse High School in New Haven, George was born in Scranton, PA and moved to New Haven, CT during his childhood. He served in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1955 during the Korean Conflict. George resided in West Haven with his family of origin before marrying Ann, his wife of almost 58 years. From there, he lived in Milford before moving to Orange, where he lived for 46 years. He worked for General Diaper Service for 25 years. Afterwards, he worked for a number of catering outfits and truck driving delivery companies including Dichello Distributors in Orange, and Roadway in West Haven. He was known as a hard and committed worker. In later years, he was a long-standing member of The High Plains Community Center Gym in Orange, and The VFW Post 9460 in Stratford. George was a diehard NY Jets and Yankees fan and enjoyed watching all sports on TV with his grandson, Gerry, as well as old movies on the TCM network. He had a great sense of humor and made friends very easily. Per his wishes, there will be no funeral or visiting hours. George will be cremated by The Cremation Society of Connecticut, in Windsor. Donations in George's name may be made to Connecticut Hospice in Shelton where he was provided outstanding home care and kept comfortable in his last days. The Burns Family will also remain forever grateful to Comfort Keepers, who also greatly assisted in his home care.

Cousin Kelley, Eddie and family, I am so sorry for your loss. Uncle George and Auntie Ann will be greatly missed. I am so very thankful that I had the chance to have them over for Thanksgiving for a few years. I'll never forget he always said "that's a fact Jack" Love you all.

Dear Kelley and Ed,I am very sorry about your father's passing. He made my whole family laugh and we always enjoyed seeing him. My best memory of him is coming to Holy Infant for Sunday mass in his red sports car and alwys tempting my Mother (Eileen Ferguson) to take a ride! He was a character who will be missed. I am also sorry about your Mom's passing. I hope good memories of your parents bring you peace.
