Joseph Consiglio Obituary

Joseph Consiglio
Joseph "Slow Joe" Consiglio, of North Haven died at home on December 21, 2023. He is survived by his wife JoAnne, sons Joseph, Jeremy, Jonathan, grandson Jaxson, Aunt Margaret Consiglio, sister-in-law Josephine Consiglio, nieces/nephews Ron, Gina, Michael, Jocelyn, Giacomo, Valerie, Vincenzo, Amanda, Gabriella, Rosa, Camillo, Maria, and Giovanni. He was predeceased by brothers Thomas and Salvatore Consiglio.
Born to the late Thomas "The Lord" and Josephine Nastri Consiglio on June 7, 1955, Joe was a "Wooster Street kid" who loved the city he was raised in and the people he grew up with. He was fond of his time at St Michael School, where he met friends he held very dear his entire life. Joe Graduated from Richard C Lee High school in New Haven in 1973, where he was a standout football player. Joe cherished playing football alongside his lifelong friend Carl Colon. A two-way starter for the Mayors Joe was featured in a New Haven Register article titled "Lee's Consiglio Plans Crash Party" where his performance was highlighted. He was described as a "rugged 5'8" 175 pounder" and "a kid who'd play any position we needed". He then went on to graduate from the University of New Haven in 1979, playing club football until Lettering on the schools inaugural League Football Team.
He married his wife and best friend of 53 years JoAnne in 1983 and shortly after moved to East Haven where he raised his family and lived for 35 years. Joe served the CT Department of Corrections until his retirement, earning a Medal of Valor for his service in 1991.
Joe was a devoted father who led by example. He held a strong and quiet demeanor and never seemed shaken, earning him the nickname "Slow Joe". He owned several boats and was an avid Sound fisherman his entire life. His favorite catch was blackfish for its taste. Joe loved the water!
Joe adored coaching the sport of football and volunteered with East Haven Youth Football for 10 years. He often referred to it as a "legal fight." His favorite past time was watching his beloved Yankees with his dog and best friend Benji who passed last year. A jokester at heart, Joe was truly admired by his family and friends. His big warm smile and piercing blue eyes will be sorely missed.

It was fun, playing football, even sandlot. Football game memories that brought laughs for years, years later. The smiles, laughs, you could generate, that went with you throughout all the stages of your life, were gracious gifts, that now give reason to "I'm sorry". Sorry knowing the memories are great, but for those being there, with Joe, understand that new stories may stop here. Or hopefully some new ones will come out, over the next few days, and the holidays. "Slow" Joe RIP.
