JOSEPH RIDARELLI Obituary

RIDARELLI, JOSEPH UBALDO, SR. Joseph U. Ridarelli Sr., 87, of West Haven died at home with his family by his side on December 25, 2016. Beloved husband of 62 years to Enes (Caricchio) Ridarelli. Loving father to Joseph Ridarelli Jr., Louise (Steven) Hurchala and Carol (Ernest) Asprelli. Loving grandfather to Kevin Ridarelli, Samuel (Kaylee) Hurchala, Benjamin Hurchala, Vera Asprelli and Valeria Asprelli. He was predeceased by his siblings Anthony Ridarelli and Clementina Amendola. Joe was born on December 20, 1929 to the late Guido and Louise (Esposito) Ridarelli. Joe served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1951-1953 and was stationed in Berlin, Germany. He loved to tell “war” stories to his family. From his 10 days at sea traveling to Germany to how to boil an egg in your helmet, Joe made the family laugh throughout the years with his many stories of Army life. Joe retired at the age of 55 as the Supervisor of Customer Service in the U. S. Postal Service. Upon retirement, he was able to devote his time and love to his family, especially his grandchildren. He went fishing, played board games, made puzzles and attended soccer games and ballet, all for the shear enjoyment of watching his grandchildren. He taught his children and grandchildren to always work hard and take care of your family; roles he modeled for them. Joe always had a suggestion and words of wisdom which helped the family each day. Joe traveled throughout his adult life, taking his family on a cross-country journey and traveling with Enes through Italy, France, Spain and Germany where he visited the Army base he left in 1953. One of his favorite places and his heaven on earth was Naples, Florida, where he spent as much time as possible with his family. The hours for visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 7pm at the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. His funeral procession will leave the funeral home Friday morning at 8:30 for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 in Our Lady of Victory Church. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Donations in Joe’s name may be made to CT. Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT. 06405. I owe so much to Mr Ridarelli. He was always willing to give me advice when my parents died at a young age. He helped me get a job at the USPS which enabled me to send my three daughters through college. I am still employed there after 38 years. I always considered his son to be my best friend. I'm so sorry for your loss. Brian Gormley

If you were lucky enough to have met Joe Ridarelli Sr. then you know what a great, man he was. A fun loving man, with a great sense of humor. A wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He was also a loving uncle. I was blessed to have him for an uncle.I will cherish the picnics in his back yard, the times he came to chowder pot for dinner looking for soft shell crabs, and when we went over his house to park so we could see the fireworks .Even as he was dealing with his health problems,he worried about me.I wish I told him how much that meant to me..I will miss you forever, Love Andrea.

How can I say good-bye to a great man and Uncle. I was so blessed to have you in my life . I will smile when I think about the picnics in your back yard, and your sense of humor.I will remember the times you came to chowder pot looking for your soft shell crab, and when we parked in your driveway to see the fireworks. You worried about me,I wish I told you how much that meant to me.I am grateful for that. Now you ,your brother and my mom are together now ,even though I would rather have the 3 of you here,I take comfort knowing you are all together.I will miss you forever.love your Niece Andrea
