Maria Ann Cocchiaro Consiglio, 89, of East Haven, beloved wife of the late Andrew F. Consiglio, passed away on April 24, 2025 surrounded by her family at her home. Loving mother of Andrew G. (Donna Ruggiero) Consiglio Sr. of New Haven, Joseph P. (Donna) Consiglio, Frances L. (Fran) Consiglio and Peter G. (Sally) Consiglio all of East Haven. Grandmother of Andrew Consiglio Jr. of North Branford, Annmarie Consiglio of New Haven, Gino A. Consiglio, Nicole (Shaun) Desrosiers and Christine and Kelly Consiglio all of East Haven and Michelle (Christopher) Polhamus of New Braunfels, TX. Great-grandmother of Isabelle Desrosiers, Ava and Joseph Consiglio and Michael and Matthew Polhamus. Maria was predeceased by her brother Pasquale J. Cocchiaro. Maria was born in New Haven on January 11, 1936 daughter of the late Pasquale N. and Anna Focareto Cocchiaro. Maria graduated from Sacred Heart Academy, Class of 1953. She worked in the payroll department for GANT Manufacturing, and then Sargent Manufacturing Co. prior to retiring. Maria loved to cook and entertain and never needed a reason to do so either. She truly enjoyed sharing a meal with family, friends, and even mere acquaintances. Her door was always open, and there was plenty of food on the table to share. Let it be a family dinner, a picnic, or a celebration, no one would ever leave hungry or without a plate to take home. Maria was an active parishioner and dedicated volunteer in many ministries/committees while a parishioner of Our Lady of Pompeii Church and continued as a parishioner of St. Ambrose Parish. Her passion to feed the hunger led her, along with some of her dearest friends, to cooking for shelters in New Haven, which she felt so humbled and honored to do. In her dedication to feeding the hunger it wasn't only people. Maria fed nearly every bird in East Haven. A 50-pound bag of bird feed per month was the minimum. She loved to watch the birds gather around the numerous feeders in her yard. Maria also found great comfort and enjoyment in her vegetable and flower gardens. She was a co-founding and business associate of the Poppa' C' LLC commercial fishing company. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and dear friends; all of whom hold a special place in her heart. A special thank you to her lifelong best friend, MaryAnn Poleshek, and her dear friend, Nancy Ryan, for the love, laughter, tears and adventures they shared, and her niece Roberta Cahon, for all your long talks, and strolls down memory lane. The family would like to thank Yale New Haven Home Hospice and Dr. Celeste Mapas-Dimaya, and her staff, for providing our mom with outstanding care and compassion.
Her funeral procession will leave the PORTO FUNERAL HOME, 234 Foxon Rd. (Rte. 80), East Haven TUESDAY morning May 6, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ambrose Parish in St. Augustine Church at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Family and friends may call MONDAY from 5pm to 8pm.
