Martin Danzig Obituary

Martin Danzig
September 5, 2021
Martin H. Danzig, 89, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2021 in Los Angeles, California. Martin was born on October 19, 2021, in New Haven, Connecticut to David and Sadie Danzig. After graduating UCONN and completing a tour in Korea, Martin moved to Boston where he met the love of his life, Ruth Roberts. They were married on July 19, 1962, until her death in May 2020. They were loving parents to their two daughters, Elizabeth, and Ellen.
Martin enjoyed a more than three-decades long career in the men's clothing business. Martin was a magnificent storyteller, had a love for people, and was a basketball fanatic. His work necessitated his being on the road and with that enabled Martin to visit nearly every state in the country, develop lifelong meaningful and impactful friendships with so many along the way. Martin's greatest gift was his ability to connect with strangers, friends, and family alike. A friend commented, "that was his super power." He was a gentle, kind listener who gave sage, heartfelt advice to those who sought his counsel.
At the center of his life was his family and he and his wife dedicated time, love and attention to their children and grandchildren, whether attending ballgames and recitals, looking after the grandchildren or hosting a big dinner, followed by a night of playing cards and laughter.
Martin is survived by his two daughters, Elizabeth Danzig Nyman and Ellen Danzig Bertine; his two sons-in-law, Michael Nyman, and John Bertine; and four grandchildren, Kaitlyn Nyman, Matthew Nyman, Tessa Bertine and Owen Bertine. He was deeply loved and will be deeply missed.

I was fortunate to meet Martin and Ruth as they shared meals with my mother, Julie at Fallbrook Glen. The love shared between Martin and Ruth was so dear and truly palpable. I know he was devastated when she passed. Martin was so kind, compassionate and such a gentleman. He had genuine curiosity about life and enjoyed engaging in conversation whether it was about basketball, sports in general, politics or whatever happened to be on our minds. We had many conversations that have remained with me to this day. I know how much he loved his family and was so happy whenever I would ask for an update on the grandkids. I am so fortunate our paths have crossed. Rest in Peace dear friend and thank you for the kindness you showed my mother and me. I will never forget you.
