Robert Dunlop Obituary

Robert H Dunlop III
Robert Horace Dunlop III (Bob) went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 27th, surrounded by his loving family and doing what he loved, watching the Knicks win on a Saturday afternoon.
Bob was born at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, DC on February 13,1944, to Captain Robert H. Dunlop, Jr. and Lucette Colvin Dunlop. He attended the Beauvoir School at the National Cathedral in Washington DC, Brunswick School in Greenwich, CT, and Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire. At Yale University, he was a varsity tennis player until his graduation in 1965. Bob completed his MBA at Harvard Business School while also studying at the Sorbonne in Paris.
A man of the world, Bob lived in Mexico City and Bangkok for Bankers Trust; London and Rome for American Express Bank; and then Cairo where he was the founding General Manager of Egyptian American Bank, a subsidiary of American Express Bank. Bob then spent 5 years as the Co-Director General of Saudi European Bank in Paris.
Bob gave up his successful career in finance to pursue his dream of running a tennis club. He owned and operated the Madison Racquet and Swim Club for 34 years. In that time, thousands of kids and adults learned how to play his favorite childhood sports of tennis and swim at the club. He was proud to pass that love onto the next generation. He was an active member of the Madison Exchange Club and Chamber of Commerce and also served on the board of the American and Foreign Christian Union for over 40 years.
Bob loved playing tennis from the first days he picked up a racquet at the Belle Haven club in Greenwich. He went on to play at clubs across the world during his travels including Roehampton, Queens Club, Gezira Club Cairo and Stade Francais. He was an accomplished competitive tennis player through his youth, college, and adult life. Bob became a mainstay of the Madison tennis community upon joining the Madison Beach Club in 1986 and continued playing well into his older days, achieving a top 50 USTA national ranking in the Under 65 age group and often playing with top players many years younger than him.
Bob is survived by his children, his sister and their families:
Philip Brezina Dunlop of West Hartford; James Colville Dunlop, his wife Noelle and their children Clara, William, and Annika of Miller Place, New York; Jonathan Mason Dunlop, his wife Christina and their children Oliver and Rose of Los Angeles, California; Lisa Campbell Dunlop, her husband Andrew Zed and their daughter Josephine of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
Lucette Colvin Dunlop Favreau, her husband of 42 years, Dale Favreau, and his children Michelle, Valerie and Christopher of Sturbridge, Massachusetts.
A service of celebration for Bob's life will be held at the First Congregational Church, Madison Connecticut at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 3. A luncheon will follow at Cafe Allegre.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the:
Bob Dunlop Tennis Foundation for tennis scholarships, PO Box 508, Madison, CT 06443; or
The Women & Family Life Center, 96 Fair Street, Guilford, CT 06437; or
