ROBERT MISCHLER Obituary

Robert J Mischler of Tryon, North Carolina passed away peacefully on March 23, 2017. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Hammer Mischler. He leaves a son, Robert J Mischler Sr and his wife Janet Moore; daughters Pat Hudson and husband Tom, and Deborah Mischler. and daughter-in-law Debbi Mischler of Ohio. He was predeceased by his son, Kevin Mischler. His grandchildren include Robert J Mischler Jr (Adrienne) of Allendale, New Jersey, Jackie Lenahan of Lincoln Park, New Jersey, Heather Rogers (Peter) of Deep River, John Crandall of Deep River, Lynn Bogard (Dale) of Liberty Township, Ohio, Kristine Barr of New Milford, Erin McDonough of Essex, Kelly McDonough of Milford and Amy Mischler of Westchester, Ohio. His ten great grandchildren include Taylor Murtaugh, Matt Mischler, Riley Lenahan, Mike Lenahan, Claudia and Ryan Mischler, Andrew and Alex Bogard, Kayla Rogers and MacKenzie Barr. After graduating from Branford High School in 1944 he enlisted in the Navy and served on the USS French in the Pacific during World War II. After the war he continued his education earning a BA and Master's Degree in education from the University of Connecticut. His first teaching assignment was at Bacon Academy in Colchester. In 1955 he accepted a teaching position at Cheshire High School teaching English and History. He became Vice-Principal in 1957 and then Principal in1961. During his years at CHS he became the chairman of Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference. During his tenure as chairman of the CIAC he was instrumental in implementing Title Nine. As the CIAC ran end of season tournaments for boys they were required to run them for girls. With increased volunteers, the knowledge of running tournaments and the financial resources of the CIAC they were able to comply with the law. He considered this his greatest accomplishment of his term as chairman. In the Fall of 2011 he was inducted into the Cheshire High School Alumnae Hall of Fame. He also received recognition of 30 years of community service from the Cheshire Kiwanis Club. After his retirement from education in 1984 he earned the title of Master Gardener from the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Services. He was inducted into the Second Wind Hall of Fame in Polk County North Carolina for his 500 hours as a Master Gardener. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Cheshire High School Library which bears his name.
