Robert Thomas O'Brien, age 92, of West Haven, formerly of Prospect and Bristol, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2021, at CT Hospice in Branford after a short illness. Robert was born on July 4, 1929, in Derby, CT, a son of the late Frank F. and Mary A. Healey O'Brien. He was a graduate of Derby High School and New Haven College (now University of New Haven) with a degree in engineering. He was very proud of his service in the U.S.A.F. from 1950 to 1954 during the Korean War with a one-year tour of duty in Korea during hostilities with the 17th bomb wing from 1952 to 1953. He lived in Prospect with his wife Joan (Stack) O'Brien and their three children for 40 years. While there, he served on several town boards and commissions and on the Prospect Democratic Town Council for six years, two as vice-chairman and four as chairman. He also served as a New Haven County Deputy Sheriff and retired from the State of Connecticut where he was employed for many years.
In addition to his wife Joan, he leaves behind his daughters Kathy (Peter) Lombardozzi, of West Haven with whom he resided for the last two years, Stacie (Chris) Roberge, of Bristol, grandchildren Katie (Tony) Leone and Noel Roberge and great-grandchildren Josephine and Penelope Leone. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother Francis O'Brien and a son Thomas E. O'Brien.
Visitation will take place on SATURDAY, September 18 from 11 to 1 p.m., with prayers at 12:30 p.m. at the West Haven Funeral Home 662 Savin Ave. West Haven. Inurnment will follow on MONDAY, September 20 at 2 p.m. at the State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown.
