Zito , Stephen Giannelli
Stephen G. Zito, age 74 of Guilford, passed away Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Yale New Haven Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Jane Fitchett Zito for 33 years. Stephen was born to Michael G. Zito and Rose G. Zito. Stephen graduated from Hamden High School in 1962 where he was captain of the basketball team. He then graduated from Villanova in 1966 with a degree in English. He went on to receive two more degrees from Southern Connecticut University in Art History and Education. He taught in the New Haven school system for 38 years, retiring in 2006. In addition to his wife Jane, he leaves behind his son, Stephen M. Zito, his daughter, Stephanie J. Zito, and his step-son, Jason C. Courtmanche (Amy). He also leaves his cherished grandchildren, Cormac and Elsa. Brother of Michael G. Zito and Judy C. Welch (Peter) and numerous nieces and nephews. Also, his sister-in-law, Charlene L. Rohloff (Richard), and dear friend, Waltrout Schwarzkopf. Stephen was devoted to his wife and children. Many summers were spent visiting beaches along the east coast. He loved going to sports games and was an avid reader. He was a gentle soul with a warm smile, kind words, and generous spirit to all those he encountered.
Friends may call on Thursday, July 26 from 9 – 11 a.m. at the Guilford Funeral Home, 115 Church Street, Guilford. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. George Church, 33 Whitfield Street, Guilford at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery, 700 Middletown Avenue, North Haven. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to the Connecticut Chapter of the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation, PO Box 303, Middletown, CT 06457.
