Steven Kuczynski
With heavy hearts and great sadness the family of Steven Kuczynski, a state worker, who was injured on the job on Tuesday, announces his passing as a result of this work related accident on 8/14/25.
Born in Derby CT, on October 27, 1974, he was the son of Sophie Kuczynski of Prospect and the late Joseph (Kutz) Kuczynski. He resided in Ansonia most of life and was a graduate of Emmett O'Brien Technical School and Paul Smith's College, in upstate New York, a place that was dear to his heart.
Besides his mother he is survived by his siblings Deanna Zielinski, Stacy Becker (Donald), Christopher Kuczynski, step-father William Mendyka, step-brother Thomas Dykas, his aunt Carol Hein, former sister-in-law Jan Kuczynski, and numerous friends. He is lovingly remembered by his nieces, nephews, great niece (who he adored), and several cousins. He also leaves behind his beloved dog, Coco. Steve was predeceased by his grandparents, John and Mary Zielinski, Joseph and Anna (Nana) Kuczynski (Steve was the apple of Nana's eye and could do no wrong), and uncle and aunt (Godparents), John and Diana Zielinski.
Steve had many passions and talents, many of which he was able to fulfill and display. While still in high school Steve became involved as a first responder (FD/EMS) following in his father's footsteps. Upon college graduation, with a culinary degree, he worked several years as a chef in New York and neighboring towns. His next pursuit was working with his father and establishing their own landscaping business. He obtained his CDL and after the death of his father, made another career change. Steve became a long haul trucker for several years having the ability to make new friends in the trucking business and the good fortune to visit the lower 48 states, sending numerous amazing photos of our beautiful country during his travels. He had a good heart and would dedicate his time and money to distribute for Wreaths Across America during the Holiday season for our deceased veterans. He eventually decided to come back to CT to be closer to family and friends, and ultimately landed a job with the State of Connecticut doing what he enjoyed.
He was an avid NY Giants and Yankees fan. He loved to socialize and would compete with his brother on who could get in the last word at family gatherings. Nights out with his siblings were always a fun time, as were family gatherings where you would know Steve was there by his booming voice. Steve was known for his willingness to help all and share, except if you asked him for one of his personal recipes. He will be remembered for his amazing smile, blue eyes and warm hugs.
The family would like to extend their gratitude for the care he received from the first responders, Waterbury Hospital ER, and especially to the staff of YNHH, Saint Raphael's Campus, MICU. He received exceptional care from each member of the staff and was allowed to pass peacefully with his family at his side.
