Winston Davis Obituary

DAVIS, WINSTON E. On Friday, April 22, 2011, at Yale New Haven Hospital, Winston E. Davis departed this life and went home to be with the Lord. Born in Bridgeport he was a resident of Shelton for six years and Beacon Falls for fifteen years. Winston was employed as a Teacher with the Bridgeport Public School System for over thirty years. In addition, he was also employed with Norwalk Public School System. He was a faithful member of Living Word Ministries. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Leona Brandon Davis of Beacon Falls; two sons, Winston E. Davis Jr. of West Haven and Brandon J. Davis of Beacon Falls; three sisters, Debora and Janice Davis both of Bridgeport; Cherolyn Davis of New Haven; two grandchildren, Nia and Anjanee Davis, one special nephew David Davis, several cousins, other family members and friends. Funeral services will be held Friday 11:00 AM at Living word Ministries, 225 Malloy Road, West Haven, CT. Interment will take place at Mt. Grove Cemetery, Easton, CT, following the service. Friends are invited to the viewing Friday from 10:30-11:00 AM at the church. Morton's Mortuary Inc, 25 Margaret E. Morton Lane, Bridgeport is in charge of arrangements. See www.mortonsmortuary.com

When I heard of Winston's death, I was shocked and totally saddened. I was recently thinking of him and realizing I hadn't spoke to him in over ten years. We use to talk of God, sports, politics and always enjoyed each others company. I send my heartfelt condolences to his wife and family. May God Bless You in this time of sorrow.

The memory of Winston, almost single-handedly beating Harding on the football field, Thanksgiving Day, 1965, is one I cherish. He was a great athlete, but a much greater gentleman - humble and stoic. My sincere condolences to his family on your loss of this fine man.
