James Puthoff Obituary

James Puthoff

Milford - James Paul Puthoff, 84, passed away Saturday, April 24, 2021, at his home in Milford, OH, surrounded by his family. Jim was born December 2, 1936, to Aloysius and Alvina (Prues) Puthoff in Norwood, OH, the youngest of four children. He is survived by his wife, Jane, of 53 years, daughters Cindy (Jeff) Oravitz, Susan (Chad) Whitaker, Mary Beth (Brian) Barker, sons Jim (Kim) Puthoff, Joe (Angie) Puthoff, 14 grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and extended family. Jim was a loving father, husband, grandfather, and loyal friend to everyone. Jim graduated from Purcell High School in 1955 and is a member of Purcell's Athletic Hall of Fame. He earned his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from Xavier University. He loved sports; especially Xavier basketball. Jim was a member of the 1958 Xavier basketball N.I.T. Championship team and always remained an avid supporter of the Muskies. Jim taught school and coached Moeller basketball from 1961-1965, as their basketball program was beginning. He was employed at the Kroger Company and retired from there after 20 years. He then went on to serve for the US EPA. Jim enjoyed vacationing on Sanibel Island, Florida. He spent his free time watching various sporting events live and on TV. He especially loved watching his kids and grandkids play sports, and he followed the Cincinnati Reds from spring training through October each year.

Of utmost importance to him was his faith. He never missed Sunday mass, even via livestream during this past year. A special thank you to all the wonderful people at Premier Nursing and Hospice of Cincinnati for their loving care and support during his final days. Visitation will be on Thursday April 29th from 9:30 AM until 11:30 AM at the Evans Funeral Home, 741 Center St., Milford, OH, with mass of Christian burial to follow at 12:00 PM at St. Columban Catholic Church, 894 Oakland Road, Loveland, OH. Sending love to the Puthoff family, and especially to my dear, sweet friend, Mary Beth. Mary Beth is a poignant example of a beautiful and genuine upbringing that was surely shaped and influenced by her wonderful father. May God embrace the family and may their father rest in everlasting peace in his prepared home in Heaven. With Love, Sandra.

Jim Puthoff made a difference in my life. I was a student of his at Moeller High School. He saw something in me and inspired and encouraged me. As a result I attended college and had a rewarding career in both education and business. I only hope that I lived up to his expectation and made the difference in my students life like he did in mine. God bless Jim Puthoff.

To Jane and to your children, my deepest sympathy in the passing of Jim. He was a great friend to me and all of his Cavalier classmates. My wife Charlotte also sends her best wishes to you all. She went to grade school and knew Jim. He referred to her as "Bootsie". I will miss him at our monthly lunches at the Mound Cafe. His positive outlook on life was an inspiration to all of his friends. Go X

Jane and Family: Our deepest for your loss, so glad I got to see Jimmy on my last visit to Cincinnati 2019. Many a good time we had growing up in South Norwood and St. Matt's, and then onto the Castle for a great High School experience. Congrats to all your accomplices at XU and latter on in life. Will miss you at the luncheons, RIP Whitey.
