Ada Martin Obituary

A time to be born, and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to pluck up that which is planted…. Ecclesiastes 3:2. Ada Girtley Martin peacefully departed this earthly realm on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at the age of 68. Ada was born to the union of the late Paige Girtley Jr. and Eliza Tate Girtley-Coleman in New Orleans, LA. She was baptized at an early age. She was a former member of the Ora Vista Baptist Church until the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. She later moved her membership to New Welcome Baptist Church in Poplarville, MS under the leadership of Pastor M. J. Galloway. She was a devoted Christian woman until her death. Ada married the love of her life, her husband the late Leon Joseph Martin Jr. To this union was born their son the late Leon Joseph Martin III. She leaves to cherish her two sisters Barbara G. Washington (Donald Washington), Dianne G. Lewis, one sister-in-law Lois K. Girtley and her stepsiblings. Her devoted nephews & nieces, Woodrow, Blair, Cynthia, Donald, Sonya, Jacqueline, Lloyd, Howard, Charles, Steven, Joshua, Timothy and a host of great nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. Ada is preceded in death by her husband Leon Joseph Martin Jr, her son Leon Joseph Martin III. Her parents Paige Girtley Jr. & Eliza Tate Girtley-Coleman. Two brothers Paige C. Girtley & Pinkney L. Girtley, one sister Sandra G. Smith, two brothers-in-law Harry Lewis & Charles Smith, nephews Herbert Girtley, Brandy Girtley and one niece Yolanda Brown. Her mother-in-law Mary Saraphina Martin, seven sisters-in-law Willa Mae Girtley, Lena Jones, Beatrice Young, Augustine Christoff, Jeanette Martin, Marie Ambrose, Francis Picot. She will be truly missed. Relatives and friends are invited attend the visitation and services to be held at Rhodes Funeral Home, 3933 Washington Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70125 on January 27, 2022. Visitation 12:00 pm followed by Celebration of Life 1:00 pm. Attendance is limited, and everyone is required to adhere to all restrictions. You must wear a face mask at all times and practice social distancing. Interment to follow St. Vincent DePaul Mausoleum, 1401 Louisa Street, New Orleans, LA. Auntie ada u got your wings tell my mama and dad and all my family I luv them and miss them u and my aunties and my mother and father taught me a lot even tho I was the bad one but I grew to this man y´all mold me in to be a better father and a man to doing what´s right and I wanna think u and my uncles for that and the rest of the families I love u u up there with your husband and son and your baby sister and your brothers and brother law and your mother and father
