Adrian Colon Obituary

COLON Adrian Anthony Colon passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, June 21, 2011 surrounded by his family. He was born May 2, 1942 to Leed Joseph and Marie Rome Colon in Gramercy, LA, and was a longtime resident of the New Orleans area. He was the beloved husband of Jeanne Savoie Colon for 47 years and was the loving father of Adrian A. Colon, Jr., Monique Colon Toso and Angelle Colon Adams. He was the son-in-law of Cecile Savoie and the late Marcel Savoie, and the brother-in-law of Marcel Savoie, Jr. (wife Andrea). He was the father-in-law of Michael Toso, III and James Adams. He dearly loved his cherished grandchildren Mary Catherine Toso, Elizabeth Toso, Margaret Adams, Claire Adams, Jeanne Adams and James Adams, Jr. He is also survived by his brothers Leed Colon, Jr. (wife Nathalie) Malcolm Colon, and numerous nieces and nephews. Adrian graduated in 1959 with honors from Jesuit High School where he was a standout athlete, lettering in football, baseball and track. He continued his football success at Tulane University; he attended law school there after his graduation in 1963. He was a manager of the New Orleans office for MONY Financial Services and an independent agent of AXA Advisors. Adrian truly lived the values instilled in him through his Jesuit education, living every day for the greater glory of God and always making the effort to be a man for others. He was a member of the Jesuit High School President's Advisory Council for over 25 years. He served as its chairman for 2000-2001 and was the longtime chair of the Insurance Committee. He provided leadership for the fledgling Living Endowment Fund in 1979-1980, chaired the Parents' Annual Giving Drive in 1983, and acted as Athletic Association chairman in 1981. Adrian initiated the Jesuit Fishing Rodeo and assisted with the Blue Jay Golf Tournament. He was an ever-present participant in these and many other functions, always generous with his time, talents and treasure. In recognition of these endeavors and his consistent determination to use his education and formation for the benefit of others, Adrian was honored by Jesuit High School as the recipient of the 2009 Homines Pro Aliis Award, given by the Jesuit New Orleans Province. A strong supporter of Catholic education, Adrian provided lasting guidance to many educational institutions. He was the founding chair of St. Mary's Dominican High School's Parents' Giving Day in 1988 and was a founding member of Dominican's Heritage Club, serving as its president from 1995 to 1998. He also served as the chairperson for the Good Shepherd School Golf Tournament from 2003 to 2011, and volunteered at Immaculate Conception Church. Adrian was an avid fisherman and enjoyed his weekly trips to Shell Beach with his friends, where the preparation of the dinner was as important as the biting of the fish. He lent his strength, generosity and humor to many and delighted in the close-knit nature of his beloved family, especially during annual trips to the beaches of Florida. His family would like to thank St. Joseph Hospice for the loving care they provided during his final days. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at the Chapel of the North American Martyrs, 4133 Banks St., (on the campus of Jesuit High School), on Saturday, June 25, 2011 at 12 Noon. Visitation at the Chapel from 9:00 AM until funeral time. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Jesuit High School Living Endowment Fund, Good Shepherd School, or the St. Mary's Dominican High School Faculty Endowment Fund. LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements. To view and sign the guest book, visit www.lakelawnmetairie.com.

i was in the prefreshman class at jesuit in 1959 and regarded adrian as the school leader who was an example for all of us to look up to. he had the respect of all of his classmates at all levels. i then had the privilege to know adrian in the last few years while attending events at jesuit such as the tarzetti football teams reunion . i still had the 1959 year book with the classic photos of adrian with the coach and pat . i offered to adrian as a memento when i learned that he did not have a copy. adrian was delighted and he came by home one day to pick it up and we talked about jesuit and the old days .please accept my condolencesas he was a man for all seasons .i am requesting a mass on his behalf

Miss Jeanne, Adrian, Monique and Angelle,

My heart is with you all right now. I cannot imagine the loss of Mr. Adrian - the beautiful words here have taken me back in time. Back to sleep overs and Girl Scouts, homework and cookies at your home, BBQ's and being included in family gatherings. I feel so blessed to have been included in your family and growing up with you, Monique. I will never forget Mr. Adrian's huge smile, larger than life laugh and the love he held so dear for all of you and his Lord. May God bless you all and know that we all have an angel in heaven to continue to watch over and pray for us. I love you all. Erin
