Audrey Meyer Obituary

Audrey Oats Meyer of Jefferson, LA, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2022, after a long and joyful life. She was born in New Orleans on January 19, 1927, to the late Stephen Coleman Oats and Bertha Bier Oats. She was preceded in death by her siblings Beverly Rougas, Miriam Momany, Andrew Oats, and Joseph Oats. Audrey was a teacher, a real estate agent, a volunteer, an animal lover, and a longtime employee of Accent Annex, where she worked well into her eighties helping thousands of locals and visitors celebrate the Mardi Gras season with beads and costumes. Her greatest joy was her family. With her late husband Vernon "Buck" Meyer, she raised her beloved son Vernon Meyer, Jr., who preceded her in death, and her devoted daughter Leslie Cox. She helped raise her adoring grandchildren Evan Cox (Jessica) and Brynn Reilly (Tyler), and leaves behind two cherished great-grandchildren, Bennett and Colin. Audrey greeted everyone she met with warmth, compassion, and an infectious sense of humor. She was the glue of our family, a vibrant host and cook, and a brilliant mind who read voraciously, loved Jeopardy, and solved stacks of crossword puzzles, always in pen. She served countless family meals made with love, and we could never get enough of her delicious meatballs, potato salad, and potato chip chicken. From her chair at the head of the table, she filled our lives with laughter, and we are grateful for every moment and memory we shared with her. She will be dearly missed and never forgotten. In honor of her wishes, there will not be a funeral service. If you would like to make a donation in Audrey's memory, please consider your local SPCA, Second Harvest Food Bank, or favorite organization supporting animals or people in need.

Leslie, I think about your mama often. We had some really great times sitting around the table at your house. I remember things like trying to figure out the meaning of American Pie, you trying to beat the banana eating record, trying to eat a certain amount of crackers in a minute, and that closet in your house that always had everything we ever needed for anything we wanted to do. I remember going to the camp at Salt Bayou. Your mama would let us use it any time we wanted. I will always be grateful for her friendship. She also sewed my prom dresses for me and helped me buy my first car. She was one in a million. I wish I could have seen her before she passed. I would love to see you too.

I have many wonderful memories from my childhood thanks to this amazing lady. Gone but never forgotten. I know she´s smiling down on all of us with the rest of her siblings and family that went before her. I´ve always loved this pic of the three sisters. Audrey, you will be missed.

I am so sorry to learn of Audrey's passing. She was always so kind to me and the many rescue animals she took in from me so long ago. She was a remarkable woman and a tremendous loss to her family (including pet family), friends, and community. I'm so sorry Leslie! Godspeed Audrey
