Calvin Jones Jr. Obituary

Calvin Palmer Jones, Jr. born in New Orleans, died at St. Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington on Monday, November 13, 2023, at age 72. He graduated from De La Salle High School and received a Master of Architecture Degree from Tulane University where he participated in the Naval ROTC program. Upon graduation he received the rank of Ensign, thus beginning a more than 30-year active and reserve career in the United States Navy. While on active duty he served in U.S. Territory, Guam and La Madelena, Sardinia, as well as being recalled to active duty during Operation Desert Storm. Upon his return state-side after his second tour of duty to Guam, he began building his architectural career in New Orleans. After several years working for local firms, he formed his own design/build company, Construction Affiliates, which he ran until his retirement. Calvin was a humble, devout, generous Catholic, always willing to offer his time and counsel to anyone who needed it. Through the years, he served in several ministries at Mary Queen of Peace Parish in Mandeville. His greatest hobbies involved boats, whether cruising for travel or sailing for pleasure. He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Diane Hufft Jones; a son Calvin Palmer Jones, III and his wife Joellynn, and their three children Kayla Nicole, Elizabeth Marie, and Calvin Palmer Jones, IV; a late son, Christian Hillary Jones, Sr. and his two children Marie-Elise Susan Jones and Christian Hillary Jones, Jr., as well as his sister Suzanne Myers, her husband Robert and nieces Alyce and Annie, in addition to many relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023, with visitation from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm, followed by mass at noon, at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 1501 W. Causeway Approach, Mandeville, LA 70471. Entombment will happen at Lake Lawn Metairie Cemetery, located at 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his name to Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church Special Projects, 1501 W. Causeway Approach, Mandeville, LA 70471.

Calvin is in white Navy uniform in the graduation photo, peeking out from behind someone's shoulder in the group photo from our class reunion at Mike Howard's house, and pretty visible in the other two photos.

Calvin's Tulane architecture classmates will always remember him as a quiet, fun-loving, dry-witted, camera-shy 20-something-year old. Below are a few photos from when we knew him some 50 years ago, and more recently about 10 years ago at a class reunion. His memory will be a blessing to all of us and others who knew him. Condolences to his family and close friends. Calvin's passing is noted with great sorrow.

So much love sent to Diane and all of Cal´s family. I never had the pleasure of getting to know Cal, but that didn´t stop him from making a huge difference in my life and in my son´s life. Cal will always be remembered and loved by me... a very generous and compassionate man. A Godly man!!
