Charles Seemann Obituary

Charles Frederick Seemann, Jr. died peacefully at his residence in Harahan on September 22, 2024 at the age of 85. Known as "Charlie", he was born to the late Charles Frederick and Ruth (Ballard) Seemann in New Orleans on September 28, 1938. He was a proud member of the De La Salle Class of 1955, where he excelled in debate, Boys' State, and State Rally. Charlie attended Tulane University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Geology in 1959, and graduated from the Tulane School of Law in 1962. His years at Tulane were marked by numerous achievements and accolades. Charlie was a proud brother of Beta Theta Pi and represented Tulane in College Quiz Bowl and Moot Court competitions. Charlie was a member of Tulane's Navy ROTC and accepted an officer's commission following his years at Tulane. While in the Navy, he served as a Restricted Line Officer (Law Specialist) at Whidbey Island Naval Air Station where he met Dorothy Ann Bagby. They married and moved to New Orleans when Charlie finished his tour of duty. Charlie started his civilian law practice with Deutsch, Kerrigan & Stiles, a relationship that lasted over 50 years. During his law career, Charlie became a nationally recognized expert in the field of construction law. One of Charlie's proudest moments was when he received the 2003-04 Cornerstone Award for Distinguished Service from the American Bar Association's Forum on the Construction Industry. His later years were also enriched by his marriage to Nancy Impastato Deese. Together, they enjoyed travel around the United States and Canada. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth (Ballard) and Charles Frederick Seemann, Sr.; his wife, Nancy (Impastato) Seemann; and the mother of his children, Dorothy (Bagby) Seemann. He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Seemann Wellborn; his son, Charles Frederick Seemann III (Amy); and his brother, Arthur Douglas Seemann (Suzanne). Charlie was devoted to his grandchildren who called him "PeePaw": Amelie Seemann, Patricia Seemann, Charles F. Seemann IV, Catherine Wellborn, Samuel Wellborn, Thomas Wellborn, Peyton Moggio, Cameryn Moggio, Courtney Moggio, and Ian Moggio. Charlie also had one great-grandchild, Micheal Anthony Breland. Charlie leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss his zest for life, his erudite conversation, his playfulness, and his sage counsel. Charlie enjoyed members' company at the many social clubs, Carnival organizations, and professional groups, but loved the camaraderie at the Bat Roost the most. Charlie's family wishes to thank the staff of The Blake and Endless Compassion for their support and care of Charlie at the end of his life. A Funeral Mass will be held for Charlie on Friday, September 27 at 1 p.m. at Lake Lawn Funeral Home, preceded by visitation from 11 am - 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to De La Salle High School in New Orleans in recognition of Charlie's love for his alma mater or to the WWII Museum in recognition of Charlie's respect for those who have served.

My sincere condolences to all Charlie's family. Charlie was a classmate of mine at Tulane Law and I encountered him occasionally after that when he was a lawyer at Deutsch Kerrigan and I was practicing law on my own. Charlie was an absolutely firs-class, honorable guy, he breathed quality from every pore, and he was intelligent and a gentleman. He is one of the people I am lucky to have known. Joseph B. Stahl

The Merrifield Family

September 26, 2024

My family and I met Charlie, Nancy, and Zydeco in our neighborhood in Prairieville. We enjoyed many visits walking our dogs together. He talked about his grandkids with such pride and love. He was interested in our family too and followed my son´s time playing baseball in high school and college. He was a special person to us and we are the better for knowing him (and Nancy and Zydeco too). We will keep your family in our prayers.
