Gary Wood Obituary

Gary Joseph Wood of Kenner passed away February 19, 2023 surrounded by friends and family. Gary, also known as Pops, Woody, and Coach, was born May 30, 1955. Graduated from Rummel ('73). Received an Associate Degree from Phillips College ('86). A lifelong mechanic, he followed in his father's footsteps and operated Woody's Auto. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing with friends. He was passionate about teaching kids. Coach Gary was associated with Woodlake Playground for over 30 years. First, as a coach, later as the Gym Supervisor. Gary is survived by his son Gary, Jr., his wife Amanda and granddaughters Angelina and Gibson. Also by his brothers, Glen and wife Jan, Lenny and wife Mary, and David and wife Donna. His sisters, Tracey and husband Ken, and Sandy and husband Keefe. Gary was predeceased by his son Michael, his mom and dad, Susie and Winston. All are invited to celebrate the life of Gary Wood on March 11 from 2 to 4 pm, Eulogy begins at 3 pm at 315 16th Street, New Orleans, LA 70124.

I remember Gary coaching my kids who are in their 30's now at Woodlake Playground. Always a joy to be around and truly cared about the kids. Glad I had a chance to see him again last summer at T-ball with my granddaughter. You will be missed. RIP
