Gloria Salcedo Obituary

Gloria Stevens Salcedo passed away peacefully at home in Baton Rouge surrounded by family and her faithful dog Winston, on Jan. 22, 2018, at the age of 90. Gloria was born and grew up in New Orleans. During World War II, she served her country, with her contribution to aiding our troops, by working as a Code Analyst for the Department of War. Gloria was also a fashion model for various department stores in New Orleans, including Godchaux's. She then went on to marry her beloved, Hector, with whom she traveled the world and raised a family. Gloria also greatly enjoyed her work with tourists at the New Orleans Tourist & Convention Commission. As a senior citizen, Gloria earned both a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts Degree from the University of New Orleans. After retirement, Gloria spent many happy times as a volunteer for the St. Vincent de Paul Society, as Eucharistic Minister at Christ the King Catholic Church in Terrytown, LA, and as a member and president of the Christ the King Church Women's Club. She greatly enjoyed participating in the Terrytown Library Book Club as well as the Catholic Women of Terrytown Pokeno Group. Gloria was a lifelong member of the Society of the Rosemary & Anna Mae Sisters. The consummate learner, she was an energetic student at the Westbank People Program at the Congregation of St. Joseph in Algiers, LA. Gloria was always a devoted sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother as well as a champion of higher education. She was a cheerful and joyful friend to all with an unbounding curiosity about the world. She is survived by her brother Ronald A. Stevens, and sisters Barbara S. Genard and Cynthia (Ken) McBride; sister-in-law Marina Salcedo Salazar; daughters, Edna (Glenn) Talboy Jr., Nancy S. Foy, and Nan (Warren) Mueller; grandchildren Michael (Monica) Talboy, Glenn (Heather) Talboy III, Judd (Melissa) Wilson, Geoffrey (Laura) Talboy, Marina Salcedo, Christina Foy, and Mallory Salcedo; 13 great-grandchildren Abigail, Mason, Grace, Joshua, Timothy, James, Benjamin, Oliver, Michael, Andrew, Thomas, Lydia, and Emmy; 15 nieces and nephews Linda, Belinda, Rhonda, Craig, Janel, Wade, Michael, Ronnie, David, Miriam, William, Mauricio, Manuel, Pilar, and Andres, all whom she dearly loved so much.
