Gretchen Kitziger-Schoen Obituary

KITZIGER-SCHOEN Gretchen Kitziger-Schoen On Sept 8th, my dear mother, Gretchen, entered her joyous life with the Lord at my home after 94 years. She was the only child of the late Leo Ingomar and Lucie Combel Kitziger. After 40 years of marriage, she survived her beloved husband, Cyril Emmet Schoen Sr. by 30 years. Her devoted son Capt. Cy Schoen, Jr. predeceased her in 2009. Her courageous daughter Margaret Schoen Grace died of Alzheimer's in Jan. 2012. She was cared for lovingly by her only surviving child Elizabeth Schoen Dauterive and my dearest Carlos Pumilia. My mother's faith and determination carried her throughout these years. Raised both Lutheran and Catholic, she chose Catholicism, exhibiting daily the gifts of the Holy Spirit. She and daddy were active members of St. Frances Cabrini Church and School and St. Joseph Academy. In later years she worked in the china dept of Holmes in N.O. East and, up to age 87, was an active member of the People Program at the St. Joseph Novitiate. Mom is survived by five grandchildren: Tom Grace, Jr. (Gretchen), Colleen Grace Loria (Paul), Heather Dauterive, Luke Dauterive (Eileen), and Emily Dauterive Froeba (Jason): eleven great-grandchildren are: Gillian and Catherine Grace; Bailey, Evan and Ashton Loria; Lee and Emelia Dauterive and Erica Compagno; Annemarie, Isabel, and Madeline Froeba; her Godchild Fay Zibilich (Ron); and former sons-in-law: Tom Grace, Sr. and Lucien Dauterive, Sr. MaMaw will be remembered for her prayer filled life and as our family matriarch. Special thanks to Drs. Starke, Parker, Malik and Kashi Rai; the caregivers and staff of the many assisted living places she resided; Southeast La. Home Health and Community Care Hospice. Very Special Thanks and Love to Renata Lindsey, Hiedi Hurd, Brianna Winston and Chalaya Parker for the care and support provided to mom and me these last months. A celebration of mom's love and life will be held Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd., New Orleans beginning at 11:00 a.m. with Memorial Mass at 1:00 p.m. Inurnment in Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name to St Jude's Children Hospital and our local Alzheimer's Association
