Hubert J. Morton Jr.

1946 - 2023

Hubert J. Morton, Jr. was born on July 5, 1946 to the union of Hubert, Sr. and Myrties Spears Morton, and following a brief illness, passed away on January 29, 2023. Hubert was a native of New Orleans, LA, and following Hurricane Katrina he became a resident of Cordova, TN. Hubert attended Blessed Sacrament Elementary School and graduated from Sr. Augustine High School in New Orleans. He continued his education at Xavier University of Louisiana's College of Pharmacy where he earned his degree in Pharmacy. He later graduated from the Case Western Reserve School of Law where he earned his Juris Doctorate. Hubert was a loving and caring son, husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Shelia Algere Morton, his daughter, Avis (Oswald), his son Hubert, III (La Shaundra), his stepdaughters Ebony, Saleama (Omar), Ericka, his sister, Kathleen Lancaster, his .grandchildren: Brandy, Jaz, Craig Jr., Avis, Hubert IV, Deshaun, Miguel, Darien, Jaden, Gabrielle, Sophia, and Priscilla, his 5 young great grandchildren, his aunt Inez Hardy, his uncle Lawrence Spears, his in-laws : Pearl Algere-Lonian, Lucy Algere-Knox (Wendell), Donna Algere Reed, Gina Algere, Gerald Algere (Donna), and Cynthia Haynes (Newton), and an extensive host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, .cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his eldest son, Craig Morton, Sr. Hubert worked for many years as a pharmacist in both New Orleans and Memphis, and along the way, he developed lifelong friendships. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, 2015 Louisiana Avenue, New Orleans on Saturday, February 11 2023 at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will begin at 9:00 A.M. Interment will be on Monday, February 13, 2023 at 10:00 A.M. at Rocky Hill Cemetery, Amite, LA. MJR friendly Service Funeral Home, 7803 Florida Blvd. E. Denham Springs, LA in charge of arrangements.
