Jan Pepperman Obituary

Jan Pepperman, age 68, entered eternal life on Sunday, September 3, 2023 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her siblings and their spouses at the time of her death. Jan was preceded in death by her loving parents, Jacob "Jay" F. Pepperman, Sr. and Mercedes "Mercy" F. Pepperman, and by her infant son, Raymond H. Gratia, III. She was adored by and her memory will stay alive through her sister, Jill P. Incaprera (Robert), her brother, Jacob "Jay" F. Pepperman, Jr. (Linda), her nieces Stephanie Incaprera and Patricia Pepperman, her nephews Jacob Pepperman, III and Michael Incaprera (Cassidy), her great niece Charlotte Gourgues, her great nephew Beckham Incaprera, along with many loving cousins and friends. Jan was born and raised in New Orleans and attended St. James Major High School in Gentilly, where she graduated Salutatorian of the Class of 1973. She attended the University of New Orleans (UNO) from 1973-1977 and graduated Magna Cum Laude, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. While at UNO, Jan was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority, where she served terms as both Pledge Educator and Treasurer. She was a member of Beta Alpha Psi, an honor organization for financial students and professionals, and Phi Kappa Phi, a National Academic Honor Society. Upon graduating from UNO, Jan obtained her Certified Public Accounting license and worked briefly for Bourgeois Bennet CPA Firm. After three years working in public accounting, she moved into the energy sector with the Louisiana Land & Exploration Company, where she served in various roles in finance and accounting. In 1996, she was hired by Shell Exploration & Production Company, where she held positions including Financial Rep serving numerous deepwater Gulf of Mexico Assets, Financial Rep for the Shell offshore logistics group, and finally as a Contracts Representative in the Land and Contracts organization, where she provided advice and expertise relative to the industry's best accounting practices, standards and guidelines for Shell's offshore deepwater operations. She retired from Shell in 2015 after 19 years of service. Jan was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Louisiana Society of Certified Public Accountants. Jan loved to travel and was an avid Saints fan, but what she loved most was spending time with her family and her friends. She will be remembered for being a great friend, an amazing teammate, a loving family member, a selfless daughter, sister and aunt, and a smart, witty, independent woman. Jan will be dearly missed. Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Jan's life and a Mass of Christian burial at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd., New Orleans 70124 on Saturday, September 9, 2023, with Visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m., with Mass in the funeral home chapel at 1:00 p.m. A private family interment at Lake Lawn Park and Mausoleum will follow. Jill, your SJM sisters are standing by you as we celebrate Jan being embraced by God while leaving us too early. She was a wonderfully warm friend and is missed greatly by all who were fortunate enough to know and love her.

With Jan´s passing, I say goodbye to one of my closest and dearest friends. I have know Jan just shy of 40 years and have enjoyed knowing her as both a friend and coworker. Jan and I were friends at the office and outside of the office. We first worked together at LL&E, then again at Shell. I always respected Jan for her professionalism, intelligence, and integrity.

I extend my condolences to her family members. She spoke of you often. To know Jan, you knew how important her family was to her.

I will always miss Jan and will cherish the great memories that I have of spending time with her. Rest peacefully, dear friend.
