Joseph Ramie III

1949 - 2022

Joseph M. Ramie III departed this life on October 11, 2022, at Willis Knighton Hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana. He was 73 years old and a native of New Orleans, Louisiana. Pokey, as he was affectionately known by his family and close friends, was the husband to the late Felicia Bourgeois Ramie. To this union, they had one daughter, Angelette T. Ramie, two grandchildren, Montrell J. Ramie and Aliyah A. Ramie. Joseph was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on August 23, 1949, to the late Joseph M. Ramie Jr. and Marie LaBeaud Ramie. He graduated in 1967 from Joseph S. Clark Senior High School in New Orleans. After graduating, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he was honorably discharged after serving his term. He then pursued a career as a telephone lineman with Bell South where he retired after 30 years. Joseph never met a stranger in all of his travels throughout the world. He was loved and respected by all. He was former member of the M.I.N.D.S. Inc. social aide and pleasure club and a retired member of local CWA3410 union (Communication Workers of America). Brother of the late Kerry, Byron Sr. (Carles) and David Sr. (Martha) Ramie. Brother-in-law of the late Alvin Johnson Sr., Bernadine Charles, Paul Bourgeois, Catherine (Erving) Charles and DelRita (Herbert) Amos. He leaves to cherish his memories with his only daughter, Angelette, his two beautiful grandchildren, Montrell and Aliyah, siblings Wanda (Alvin Sr.) Johnson, Wade (Melessia) Ramie, Caroline (Joseph) Register and Elston (Joni) Ramie, in-laws Leslie, Wallace Jr., Ernest, Richard, Arnold (Linda), Dolores, Betty and Frances Bourgeois along with a host of family and friends. Relatives and friends of the family are all invited to attend his Celebration of Life on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at St. Leo The Great Catholic Church, 2916 Paris Ave., New Orleans, LA 70119; Visitation at 9:00 am, Service at 10:00 am.
