Jules Lea Obituary

JULES A. LEA died quietly in his home in the early morning hours of September 25, 2013 of complications of Alzheimer's Disease. A long-time resident of Metairie, he lived in the Greater New Orleans area for his entire life. He was born May 15, 1928 in Mississippi but moved as an infant to New Orleans. He attended high school at St. Aloysius, graduating circa 1947, and attended LSU for several years before joining the military. He served honorably in the United States Army from 1950 to 1952, where he taught mine warfare to recruits training for the Korean War. He then worked in the utilities industry for many years, retiring from NOPSI in 1988. A lover of flowers, particularly orchids, he volunteered his services for many years tending the greenhouses at City Park. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Anne Alessi Lea and six nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jules J. and Emily Mae Lea, and his sisters, Shirley Lea Maestri and Norma "Deanie" Lea Foley. He was memorialized in a private graveside service at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Metairie. Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association, 2605 River Rd., New Orleans, LA 70121. The family wishes to thank the Heart of Hospice and especially Leslie Mack who took such good care of Jules. The online guestbook is available at www.gardenofmemoriesfuneralhome.com.
