Mark LaBorde Obituary

LaBORDE Mark J. LaBorde, age 46, died Sunday, February 28, 2010, at his home in Greenwood, South Carolina. The son of Lackey J. and Sheila LaBorde, Mark was a graduate of Archbishop Rummel High School and the University of New Orleans, where he received a degree in Economics. In college, he was a member of Phi Kappa Theta and an avid skeet shooter and the member of an award winning skeet team. Mark loved working with his hands, and he was quite accomplished in home remodeling. He had a love for music and musical instruments, especially the guitar, and he shared his talents with friends both old and new. A life-long resident of New Orleans, Mark relocated to Greenwood in 2006, where he frequently entertained friends with stories of events and the graceful lifestyle for which New Orleans is known. He will be remembered by his friends in both South Carolina and Louisiana. Mark is survived by his wife, Angelle Roberts LaBorde; his son, Matthew; his parents; his brother Brian LaBorde and wife Sarah; as well as several uncles, aunts, nieces, and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 5100 Pontchar-train Blvd. at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 4, 2010. A private entombment will follow at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum. A Visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Archbishop Rummel High School, Advancement Office, 1901 Severn Ave. Metairie, LA 70001.

Mark was a genius when it came to woodworking. While at Huttig Sash and Door in Harahan, Louisiana, Mark landed and sold all the remodeling items for 1,100 rooms at the Sheraton New Orleans hotel.

To Mark's family and friends,
My long overdue condolences to each of you. I was told of Marks passing shortly afterwards and had been to this site a few times to post my respects. The words could not come to me then, so I said nothing at the time. Now, I am filled with regret for this inaction. Along with Rick Guidry, Mark and I attended Rummel as Junior/Seniors, along with the trip to Florida. I remember him always having a smile on his face, along with an exuberant personality.
I hope if you receive a notification of this update to his tribute, it will serve that he has not been forgotten, but a cherished part of my life.

To Mark's family,
He and you all will be within my prayers. I was saddened and shocked to hear of his passing. He was SUCH a beautiful person and a good friend during my time at UNO and with Phi Kappa Theta as a little sister. His sense of humor and smile were always there. Please accept my most sincere condolences.

I was so sad to hear about Mark's passing. I worked with Mark when he was at Lowe's in Harvey La. He helped me so much during that time. Mark, Chuck, and Hank were the best in commerical sales at our store and I will miss him dearly. God Bless you and your son and our prayers are with you.

Angelle, I sit here in absolute schock and sorrow for your loss. It is never easy to lose a loved one, let alone the most imoprtant one in your world. As life continues to move forward for you and your family, know that you are surrounded by many friends and family beyond where you are right now and all offer an open heart. My deepest sympathy for the loss of a large piece of your heart.

Dear Mr and Ms Laborde and Brian, I am deeply saddened to learn of Mark's passing. As juniors and seniors at Rummel, Mark and I became friends. We were always laughing! Mark used to always crack up when I would imitate Mick Jagger. I called him "Canon"(The 70's TV detective) when he would drive that big green Ford LTD. We also shared a high school graduation trip in Ft Walton Beach. I will always remember Mark as a good guy with a hilarious sense of humor. It is a blessing to have known Mark. He has given us all priceless memories. The Laborde family has my sincere thoughts and prayers. May your faith in God empower you now and moving forward.

Sheila,Lackey and Brian,

Betty and I were so saddened by the loss of your precious son and brother.of course, we knew Mark as a child and saw him grow up to be a fine and wonderful man. We only have good memories of Mark, and recall how thoughtful and helpful he was; just like his parents who were such great role models. We feel your pain and will keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

From the Woodruff family, we were sorry to hear of the passing of your son.

We know that it is a difficult time for you, Lackey and your family.

We offer our prayers for him and we offer prayers for the surviving family.

At times such as these, others feel as though we could do more but we also know that it is a time for you to cope and live on beyond this time in your lives.

I am reminded of something that someone shared with me many years ago about the loss of someone very close and dear:

“Be thankful that God placed your loved one in your life. For the rest of your life do not count your losses but your blessings that you had the opportunity to have loved the person for as long as you did during life. If our living is worth anything, it is for our blessings endowed by God. For our blessings and for our strength, we invoke the name of Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for He did not make loving simple – He made loving everlasting.”

God bless you and your family from the Woodruff family.

It is with great sadness that I heard of Mark's passing. He was a good friend and we always had so many terrific times together. He was a great fraternity brother, and took good care of me. I will remember his smile and laughter, his obnoxious sense of humor, and his always telling me, "Breaks aren't given at this window!" My life is the richer for having known him. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Our thoughts and prayers have been with you and Matthew and Mark's parents this week. We will continue praying for all of you. God bless you. We love you, Angelle.

May the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you during your period of grief. It is not easy to lose a loved one; but may Mark's passing from this world to the next be a stepping stone to his memory and not a stumbling block. Just having known Mark as a fellow Phi Kappa Theta has certainly enriched my life. I know that he has certainly blessed others more.

Fraternally Yours In Christ,
