I was speechless this morning in the OR after hearing the news of your passing from Sue Campbell, CRNA. You were someone I truley looked up to during my training at Charity. I have carried many valuable lessons you shared with me into my practice, and I thank you for all of the memories, even the ride down I-10 in the 90 model Targa. I will truley miss you, and your wisdom. You have also shown me the importance of keeping in touch. I wish we could share one more joke together. God's speed my friend.

Wow, I inadvertantly learned of your death today Mark. I can easily say that you were a great impression on my life and training during my years at charity. You were always respected by the surgery residents. And considering the tension b/w surgeons and anesthesiologists on many occasions, that's saying alot. You will be missed by many.

As a resident and then staff anesthesiologist at Charity, I enjoyed the privilege of working with Mark Mitchell - a man who always made me smile and put me at ease. He had a mischevious (but harmless) sense of humor, complimented by a heart of gold. Sometimes when we were working late on call together, he would give me money to buy us grilled cheese sandwiches from the Fistula (the greasy eatery in front of Charity, open on both ends of course). He was a man who recognized the best in people and saw the world through rose-colored lenses, both figuratively and literally! Mark, my friend, I look forward to seeing you again one day.

I miss Mark alot. He trained me at LSU and then I worked along side him for several years. He was such a funny, caring and very giving man. There are not many unconditionally loving people as he left in this world. It makes me smile just to think about his ineptness dealing with electronics, but he would always have the latest and best device on the market. I think about Mark daily. I can only imagine what he is doing now; probably scratching his head and twirling around in Heaven, lost, and then seeing a pretty young lady and putting on that devilish grin as he trails off after her. Rest in peace Mark Mitchell.

An anesthesiologist, a teacher, a co-worker, a true friend, I will miss you, your lessons, and your humor. How at ease you made everyone feel by just being there. I enjoyed working with you and knowing you.

Mark was a dear friend and I will miss him greatly. He was a kind and fair staff when I was a resident, a great teammate when we were staff together, and a skilled and dependable staff member when I was in charge of the LSU Department. It was during that later time that we become close as Mark would often pop in the office to offer words of encouragement and advice during some very difficult times at LSU.
Over the past five or six years we began attending Saints and Hornets games together and we became very close. During our many hours together socially, Mark often impressed upon me the importance of spending time with family and friends and putting work in perspective, especially in the wake of the storm. Mark was great with my children when we were out together and they thought "Mr. Mark was cool." Mark had also become a good friend of my dad as they attended sporting events together.
I can only hope that Mark benefited half as much from my friendship as I did from his. My life is richer due to the time we spent together.
Rhen and I and the kids miss you deeply and we pray for you often. You will not be forgotten.

As a cousin of Terri Ditta I met Mark through the family. I grew to love and admire him as I got to know him. His kindness and caretaking towards others were extraordinary. He offered himself generously to all who knew him. Through his actions, Mark taught me by example how I'd like to treat others. He offered no judgement, only love. I extend my deepest condolences to all who loved him as we mourn together in the insurmountable sadness of lossing Mark.

We were very saddened to hear of Mark's passing. We have known him for many years from the days at Charity. Mark taught us and many many CRNAs skills we use daily even all these years later. Whenever you called for assistance in the OR you always hoped you would see Mark walking through the door. Even with the trials and tribulations in his personal life, his professional knowledge and abilities were top-notch. We will miss him.

Mark was a very caring physician who enjoyed teaching and sharing his skills, of which there were many. During the fifteen years we worked together, he taught me so much, particularly about fiberoptic intubations, central line placements, and many other techniques. He was always successful at these, even when others had failed.
He was a gentle person who had a great, wicked laugh, and who genuinely liked people.
I'm grateful I knew him, and I miss him.

Man, Mark! Too young, too soon. But thanks for the "adventures" when we we fellow members of the department. And sorry about giving you grief for that episode in San Fran at the ASA. And I still am scared from the ride in the new red Porsche. 80mph on Dunmaine is too fast. But, then again, that was you.
And thanks for being a steady dependable presence in the ORs. You made my job easier and and those around you better.
Fare the well, Mark Mitchell. Take the afterlife for all its worth.

I was saddened to hear of Mark's passing. He was a remarkable character, always unflappable in the face of mayhem at Charity. He was one of the better "seat of the pants" anesthesiologists I have known. May he rest in peace.

Mark was my attending anesthesiologist at Charity Hospital in the early nineties. We worked on many difficult cases together. He was an excellent teacher who had a unique ability to see the big picture in a difficult situation. His technical skills were second to none. Seventeen years later his influence and teachings are still evident in my practice. He will be truly missed.

I grew up in Alexandria and I remember Mark from our high school years. When I went to nurse anesthesia school at Charity Hospital in 1977, I was pleasantly surprised to find that Mark was an anesthesiologist there. I remember him as a fair, patient, and excellent teacher. He will be missed by many.

I greatly enjoyed working with Mark at Charity Hospital and learned much of real importance from him both about the clinical practice of anesthesia and about life in general. Many lessons he taught me remain extremely relevant, including using arterial pressure waveform variation to judge volume responsiveness in the hypotensive pateint, using long-axis imaging during ultrasound-guided vascular cannulation, and many fine points relalted to use of the Eschmann introducer and fiberoptic bronchoscope.
I only wish he were still participating in the on-going effort to expand the anesthesia knowledge frontier.

Mark was a close friend that Carolyn and I can never replace. We loved him like a son. We have had the privilege to be a part of Mark's life for thirty years and we relished each other's companionship. There are no adequate words to express our heartfelt sympathy in the loss of a very dear friend. We know that Mark is in a better place but that does not ease the pain, suffering and and sadness. We will miss you my friend. We love you and God speed.

I met Mark at Charity in 1982. I worked him often and was always impressed with his intelligence, his anesthesia skils and expertise. I was most impressed with his sense of fairness ,dealing with Residents,CRNAs and SRNAs and MDAs working in that "Charity madness" on a daily basis. He will be sorely missed by the anesthesia community.

Mark was a skilled anesthesiologist who freely shared his expertise with the many burgeoning nurse anesthetists (students) I sent his way. Thank you, Mark, for your kindness and patience in mentoring many generations of anesthesia providers. We will miss you often and keep you in our hearts always.

Mark was a life long teacher. He inspired me to pursue the life of medicine and to him I am forever grateful. Instead of law school, I embraced physics and chemistry and, of course, surgery at crazy hours. It is amazing how one person can affect another's life. Thanks, Mark! You will be so missed and adored for your contribution to so many people's lives. God Bless you.

It is with great sadness that I had learned of Dr. Mitchell's death from a fellow CRNA colleague. Dr. Mitchell was a fine anesthesiologist who taught not only the principles of anesthesiology to the student nurse anesthetists at Charity Hospital in New Orleans but also gave us practical advice for our general lives. He was a good soul and will be sorry missed in our community. My regrets for his passing to his family and especially, Dr. Terri Dita.
