Mark Weber Obituary

Mark Anthony Weber went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, surrounded by his family at the age of 72. He was born on October 11, 1951 and was a lifelong resident of Norco, Louisiana. He is preceded in death by his parents, Winnie and James Weber, and his sister, Nancy. He is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Shirley; his four children, their spouses, and five grandchildren: Casey and Elizabeth, parents of Stella, Gretta, and Joshua; Brett and Tian; Maury and Sara; and Yvonne and Charly, parents of Annabelle and Lillian. Mark is also survived by his brother, J.B. and sisters, Susie and Linda. Mark attended Norco Elementary School and then Destrehan High School (Class of 1971). Mark earned an Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology at Delgado Community College. Known as "Dub" to his coworkers and friends, Mark worked at Shell Chemical as an instrument inspector at the Norco Refinery for over 35 years, where he became a patented inventor. Having lived his whole life in Norco, Mark spent many mornings hunting, fishing, and crabbing in the Bonnet Carré Spillway, a place he held dear to his heart for his entire life. After retirement, Mark learned to play the piano and spent hours learning to play songs by the Beatles, his favorite band. He enjoyed making s'mores with his granddaughters. A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 22, 2024 at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie, LA. Shirley, Belinda & I are so sorry to hear of Mark´s passing. I spoke with him on the phone and he told me he thought he was getting out soon and would call back later.
He was a true friend and the only one I worked with that kept in contact with me all the time I was in Nigeria. He really did like that nasty tasting German coffee I brought back to him, didn´t he? I really enjoyed meeting with him for an occasional lunch here and there. He worked on a friend´s radio for me that I couldn´t fix. He was always busy with something. He was a real inspiration with his tinkering with music (expressed a desire to learn the tuba! Really? ), turn-tables, re-capping radios, you name it. Always seemed to be learning something new.
I know it´s been a few months. So sorry about that. He´s the first close friend of mine that has passed. Rocked me back on my heels. Hope you and your family are doing well.

After leaving Shell, I met with Mark a few times along the way. Here's one dated 4/18/2005. 19 years ago, almost to the day. He was a great friend at work and our friendship continued even after I left. I was working with him in Utilities when Mark got the phone call that Shirley had gone into labor, the day that Brett was born. He texted me when I was working in Nigeria. We both decided on a date to meet up for lunch at Middendorf's on I-55, roughly halfway between our houses. When I arrived, there was only one other vehicle in the parking lot. It was raining.... and a Monday. Middendorf's was closed! I called Mark to tell him to turn around if he hadn't already got on the elevated part of I-55. It turned out that he was in the only other vehicle in the parking lot. We had a big laugh about it and decided on where to go eat. He was a remarkable man and I will miss him very much.
Mark, thank you for being such a wonderful friend.
Shirley, Brett... I am so sorry for your loss.
