Dear Lucy and Renee, Duke was such a good friend and fellow law enforcement officer. We loved working for the St. Bernard Sheriff's Office and always talked about our shared love of the history of St. Bernard Parish. My sincere condolences on such a great loss to your family.

This outpouring of grief is not a surprise since Duke knew so many people. I met him when he was seventeen and am having trouble realizing that he is now gone. But it is a comfort to also realize that he was a happy man. He lived most of his life in the only place he ever wanted to be and worked at the only job he ever wanted and never completely retired from it. He married Lucy which was probably the smartest thing he ever did and they lived "happily ever after". I wish with all my heart that they had had much longer a time together. He was "strictly St. Bernard" (one of his favorite sayings). And now Duke never will have to leave St. Bernard and that's a good thought. Love to you Lucy. You were as steadfast, loyal and loving a wife as any man could wish for.

My Condolences to Ms. Lucy, Renee, and all of the family and friends affected by Mr. Duke's passing. I will never forget many meals at Stixx, eating sushi and joking around, and running into Mr. Duke all over the parish. The Collins family has always been a part of my life. Mr. Duke went to school with my dad, I went to school with Renee, and Ms. Lucy took care of my mom often at Chalmette General. Mr. Duke was always after me be good and to take care of myself, and he NEVER let an opportunity go by to tell me what a great, special woman my mother was and how much he admired and respected her, as did others. I am sure they are up there together watching down over us all. I will miss that fake gruff façade and that teasing heart. Ms. Lucy, my dad is not able to use a computer right now since his stroke, but he wanted me to pass on how sorry he is to hear Mr. Duke passed and he is thinking about you. RIP peace Mr. Duke.

Condolences to Lucy and the Collins' family. My heart goes out to you at this time of grief.
Growing up Duke was always in our house. He was a great friend to my two oldest brothers, and us younger kids always called him "Uncle" Duke. He has played the part as my godfather since I was in high school, he was the one to point me toward law enforcement and emergency medicine. I will always have a special place in my heart for my 'Uncle Duke".

Lucy,
So very sorry to hear about Duke's passing. After reading all the wonderful entries in his guest book, I see that Duke has a lot of brownie points for good deeds performed, acts of kindness, compassion for others, etc. Duke was a good friend to those who were fortunate to have him as their friend, and he was a good man in general. God will definitely take good care of him in his new life. May God bless you and yours during this very difficult time.

All my prayers and love to Lucy, Renee' and the rest of the family. Heaven gained a Model A mechanic, lover of Jimmy Rogers, gun expert, motorcycle enthusiast, rare steak eater, jokester, history buff (especially St Bernard).....By being a friend of Duke Collins I learned how to change an alternator on a 70 Ford pickup, change a head gasket on and how to drive a 1930 Model A, what Kelsey Hayes wheels are, change the spark plugs on my t-bird, cut grass with an old Ford tractor, cook a rare t-bone steak on the pit, shoot a black powder gun, and everything I ever wanted to know about General PGT Beauregard...... RIP Duke... Watch over us down here.... Heidi
