Bobby,
Unfortunately, I just heard about Dickie's passing this week. I remember meeting him as a young trumpet player at Loyola in the late 60's, sitting in with the trio at Ronnie's club one night when Al Hirt walked in and sat right in front of the bandstand, and performing with him many times in various venues over the years, including Ronnie Kole's septet.
Dickie was a fine drummer, musician, story teller, and mentor to many. But he was an even better person - Always friendly, kind, and hospitable. Although our paths didn't cross much in more recent years, I will always remember what a joy it was to be in his presence on and off the bandstand.
May God bless you and your family in a very special way as you mourn his loss and celebrate Richard's life.
With love,
Bobby Ohler

Bobby... We met a few years ago. i have known Dickie for about 20 years, since I first met him when he was playing with Connie at the Blue Angel. Dickie always giggled about my sons' prodigious size and referred to them as the trees. I am adding a photo of him and my wife that was taken a few years ago at the French Quarter Festival.
My father always said that a man's worth could only be measured by what he left behind. With me and my family Dickie left us with thousands of laughs and wonderful riffs that will rattle around in our heads for lots of years.
From my family to yours, God bless and thank you for sharing your treasure with us.
With warmest regards,

My ex-husband's family was related to Mr. Taylor, and I remember many stories of visits they made and the good times they had. Several years ago, my former brother-in-law came for Jazz Fest, and had contacted Mr. Taylor. We made arrangements to cruise on the Natchez, where the Dukes were playing. We not only enjoyed their music, but got to spend some time with Mr. Taylor, talking about family, New Orleans, the culture & music. I will always remember that evening. Dickie went out of his way to spend time with us, and made us feel very welcome in a truly New Orleans fashion. I offer my most sincere condolences to family & friends.

To the Taylor Family,
Please accept my condolences on the death of Dickie .
I enjoyed many wonderful evenings at the Olde Absinthe House
Listening to the "Mayor Daley reject " as Ronnie Kole used to introduce him . His solo in "Big Noise from Winetka" was always one of my favorites.
May he enjoy everlasting peace and rest in the presence of our
Lord and Savior!
