Robert Louis Russell Jr.

1968 - 2024

Robert Louis Russell, Jr., better known as "Rob", was born March 5, 1968 to the union of Robert & Barbara Russell. Robert graduated from Walter L. Cohen High School in 1986, later attended Delgado C. College. Those who knew Robert knew him as a gentle and humble spirit that devoted his life to his family, friends and to his church. Robert accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age at The First African Baptist Church 6th District, under the leadership of Pastor Crispus S. Gordon, Sr. Robert loved the Lord. Robert was a faithful member of the Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, Pastored by Rev. Moses S. Gordon, II. Robert served as an usher at the time of his death. Robert's career started with the Vinson Guard Service, Inc., Edward Livingston Middle School, Lake Lawn Cemetery, Columbia Park Apartments, and finally with the City of New Orleans Sanitation Department. Robert was a child of God full of smiles and he stood for peace. Our God never makes mistakes and in his infinite wisdom, he called Robert home to rest on Sunday, October 13, 2024. Robert's departure leaves a deep and personal loss to all who loved him and were blessed to share precious moments in his life. Although he will be sincerely missed, there's a peace in knowing we can truly say "To be absent from the body, is to be present with the Lord". Robert is survived by his parents Robert Louis Russell, Sr. and Barbara Hughes Davillier, his brother Demetrius Anthony Russell, Sr., stepbrother Columbus Russell, grandmother Dorothy Hughes Champagne, aunt Joan W. Butler, uncle Alvin Hughes, Godmother Alice Joseph Dabney of Pearland, TX, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his grandmother Clara Russell, grandfathers Owen Champagne and Major Russell, uncles Walter Earl Russell, Byron Martin, Carl Lee Russell and Major James Russell, Jr., cousins Brad Martin and Jeremiah Russell. Relatives and friends of the family, also Pastor, Officers and Members of Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, are all invited to attend the Funeral Service on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 10:00 am at Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, 2805 General Taylor St., New Orleans, Louisiana 70115. Rev. Moses S. Gordon, II Pastor and Officiant. Visitation will begin at 9:00 am. Interment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
