Roy Lafayette Ham

1936 - 2024

Roy Lafayette Ham was welcomed into God's heavenly choir on Saturday, May 11, with his family by his side. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Gayle; his daughters Angela (Rickey), Julie (Guy), and son Frank (Kris). He is also survived by 5 granddaughters and 2 great-granddaughters. Roy was born in Greene County, Mississippi on December 9, 1936. After leaving Mobile, Alabama, he and Gayle moved to New Orleans in 1962 to begin his career in the automotive industry at Fact-O-Bake. He then managed the body shop/paint department at Metairie Ford, then later at Interstate Ford. After 32 years in the car business, he retired, but not for long. He began work at East Jefferson General Hospital in Guest Services for 5 years and then moved to Folsom, LA where he joined St. Tammany Parish Hospital (STPH) and drove the employee shuttle bus for 15 years. He was affectionately known at STPH as "Mr. Wonderful". He was ambassador of the year during his time of employment at STPH. Roy's happiest times were smoking a cigar while riding his Kabota cutting grass. He never met a stranger and was loved by all, especially his Bogue Falaya Baptist Church family. The family would like to thank the staff of St. Tammany Hospice and The Peristyle Memory Care for their love and compassion. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 8, at noon at Bogue Falaya Baptist Church, 78689 Highway 25, Folsom LA 70437. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 12:00.
