Valentine Knopp Scheurich

SCHEURICH Valentine Knopp Scheurich III passed away Sunday January 12, 2014 from complications due to a stroke. He was born in New Orleans April 15, 1948. He was preceded in death by his Father Valentine Knopp Scheurich, Jr and survived by his son Valentine Knopp Scheurich IV (Scooter), his loving Mother Rubye DeLoach Scheurich, and two brothers, James Steward Scheurich, Sr (Anne Ferchaud Scheurich) and Jon Scott Scheurich (Darnell Osborne Scheurich) both of New Orleans. Five nephews James Steward Scheurich, Jr, Christopher James Scheurich, Scott Valentine Scheurich, Dylan Daniel Scheurich, and Max Oliver Scheurich. And one niece Joanna Marie-Zelime Scheurich. Val or Ric as he was known by many of his friends attended Isidore Newman High School, Florida Presbyterian College (B.A.) And Tulane University Law School (J.D.) He was a lifelong resident of New Orleans and was devoted to the practice of Law. Val began his law career at the law offices of Judge Jerome Winsberg and Eddie Sapir (later Sapir, Bishop, and Garcia). And in partnership with Stanley Bowers, and later with John F. Greene. Also in Private Practice. He served as an assistant Parish Attorney in Jefferson Parish and as assistant City Attorney for four different New Orleans Mayors: Maurice "Moon" Landrieu, Ernest "Dutch" Morial, Sidney Barthelemy, and finally as Head of Major Litigation under his dear friend City Attorney Okla Jones in the administration of Marc Morial. His passion was music and he spent his whole life devoted to many New Orleans musicians as a manager, legal advisor, recording engineer and friend. His clients included James Carroll Booker III, Lil Queenie and the Percolators, Big Chief Larry Bannock, Clark Vreeland, Dust Woofie and many more. His kindness, generosity and compassion was appreciated by all those who came in touch with him. Services are private but will be followed by a reception at the home of his brother Jim. All close friends and family are invited to this celebration of Val's life at 4004 State Street Drive from 2-5pm on Sunday January 19th.
