Velda Mary Berzat Roberts

Velda Mary Berzat Roberts, age 81 was born on December 10, 1941, in New Orleans, Louisiana passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, July 14, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones. She attended Holy Ghost Catholic Elementary School and graduated from Walter L. Cohen High School. She attended Southern University New Orleans and the Adult Education Center. She worked as a secretary for the Naval Reserve Center in New Orleans for over thirty years. In 1976, she joined Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church where she was a faithful member until her death. She was an active member of the Penny Pinchers Savings Club, Life & Lively Senior Group, 55 & Faster, Altar Society and the Lady Knights of Peter Claver. She is survived by two daughters Tamara R. Thornton (Kelvin) and Janelle R. Hamilton (Hank); one stepson, Elbert Roberts; two brothers Paul (JoAnn) and Michael (Joyce) Berzat; two sisters, Gail B. Paul and Brenda B. Ford. She also leaves to cherish her memory two aunts, Nellie Rose Francois Thompson and Doris Francois Prevot; one uncle, Spellman Francois; sisters-in-law, Claudia Aykes, Adala Berzat, Virginia B. Berzat, Eugenia Robinson, Tommie Turner, Edith Williams; brothers-in-law, Terry Aykes and Ellis Williams Sr. along with 13 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Cleon Roberts, Jr; her parents Dolfrey P. Berzat and Lessie Francois Berzat; one daughter Anne Marie; one stepson Carl Roberts, Sr., two sisters Marcella B. Pittman and Louella B. Gray; and three brothers Clarence, Leslie Charles and Larry Berzat. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church, 9701 Hammond Street, New Orleans, LA 70127 at 10:00 a.m. Visitation from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Interment Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, 34888 Grantham College Road, Slidell, LA 70460.
