July 1, 1946 – May 27, 2023 William Bernard David passed away in the hospital in Mandeville, Louisiana on Saturday, May 27 at the age of 76. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Julia Ann Madden David, and his son William Myron David (Dana) and 2 grandchildren, William Tate and Eleanor Ann. He is also survived by 3 brothers, Charles Delu David Jr. (Jill), James DeGrey David, and John Harold David, and a sister, Julie Amy David Emmanuele (Roland). He is also survived by 2 brothers-in-law, John Geren Madden (Nancy) and Merritt Gray Madden (Dorothy). He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews, as well as grand nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Delu David Sr. and Marion Armstrong David. Bill was born at Touro Hospital in New Orleans. He attended LaSalle Elementary School, Eleanor McMain Junior High and Alcée Fortier High School. As a youth he belonged to the Valencia Social Club. He was a graduate of Southeast Louisiana University and a founding member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. Bill served in the US Army during the Vietnam Era, where he was stationed to guard Rudolf Hess at Spandau Prison in Berlin, Germany. Bill spent most of his working life as an insurance salesman and as an insurance executive. He was always a fitness enthusiast, and he ran in the Crescent City Classic for twenty years. Most importantly, Bill was reverent and spiritual, and he believed in serving his church and community above all. He was active in the confirmation process of many young people at St. Timothy Methodist Church where he was also a beloved Sunday School teacher. He was deeply involved in service to the community as a member and president of the Rotary Club. He helped raise college tuition scholarships for students of all backgrounds and ethnicities from our area. Socially, he sparkled as a member of the Orpheus Club. Medically, he made two miraculous recoveries from cancer under the care of Dr. Jack Saux. A funeral service will be held at Bagnell & Son Funeral Home on Lee Road in Covington on Thursday, June 8th. Bill was so personable and congenial - a real gentleman. He will be sorely missed. He and Julie made a fine couple and we had many fun times watching the Saints, cooking and sharing coffee on their porch. Such fond memories. God bless his wife and family.
