Bill Barrier Obituary

Bill Lee Barrier, age 87, of Neola, IA., passed away at Prairie Gate Retirement Community in Council Bluffs on February 18, 2022. Bill was born May 16, 1934, in Neola, to the late Max and Edna Barrier. He graduated from Neola Public with the class of 1952. Bill joined the Army in May of 1956, and proudly served his country. While on leave he was united in marriage to Constance Stebbins, on December 29, 1956, at the Neola Presbyterian Church. He served 2 years at an Army base in Bassens, France, living off post with his wife Connie. After leaving the service, Bill attended electronics school where he met his long time friend Mike Volejnik. The experience of working with electronics led Bill and Connie to their next life step, starting Allied Communications in 1964. Mike became the General Manager and a long time relationship of trust and business was on its way. Allied grew to a business of over 100 employees with customers at the national and international levels. One of the first of its kind in the industry, it became a standard to "be like Allied". Selling the business in 1999, after 35 years, Bill and Connie enjoyed their retirement years. They were 'snow birds' for 15 years in Tucson, AZ., but the love was for his town of Neola where they returned full time. Bill's focus was community. He and Connie supported many things throughout the years, but the last 20 were even more focused. Improvements for the community included the fire department building, the Neola Area Community Center, and the Quail Run Golf Course. Bill loved to see business in his community renovating buildings to accommodate. The last venture was purchasing and renovating the local grocery store, The Blue Cow, still operating today. Next to his love of family, the community flourishing with business made him happy. Bill will be missed by many. A quiet respected man to most, humor and story telling to others. Always love for his wife, children and grandchildren. There is a hole in our hearts but we endeavor to fill that by asking, "what would Bill do". That will put anyone on the right path. Bill is preceded in death by his parents Max and Edna Barrier; siblings, Jack and Jim Barrier, Helen (Barrier) Lewis, Wendell Barrier. Bill is survived by his wife Constance (Connie) S. Barrier; children and spouses, Gregg (Susan) Barrier, and their son Tegan, of Westminster, CO., Ron (Tara) Barrier, of Neola, and their sons Britton, Brody, Bryant and Doug Hoke, daughter Bree, Candy (Doug) Theobald, and their sons Kade and Dane, of Omaha. Private family funeral will be held followed by visitation for all on Friday from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Memorials are suggested to Neola Community Center, Neola Betterment Corporation, or the Neola Fire & Rescue.
