Joan Batten Obituary

Joan Ruth Batten was born March 1, 1932, in Council Bluffs, to the late George and Ruth Cissna Ricker. Joan was married to Leo Batten on September 19, 1947, and they were blessed with 5 children. Joan stayed at home and raised her children while watching other children until she started working at Jennie Edmundson Hospital. She worked mostly in the OB Department caring for mothers and babies for almost 25 years (including several of her own grandchildren). Joan loved to travel, and she and Leo saw almost all 50 states and parts of Canada together. She also enjoyed trips with her daughters and granddaughters later in life. Joan was a member of First Christian Church, and their Women Faith Circle. She volunteered at church, Jennie Edmundson and Risen Son Senior Community. She spent the last years of her life at Risen Son enjoying her friends and the community there. In her own words written about her life she ended by saying "it has been a good life." Joan enjoyed a wonderful 90th birthday celebration with her family and friends last March. Joan is preceded in death by husband Leo; son Mike Batten; two grandsons Chad Batten, and Neil Batten; sister Suzette Coleman. Joan is survived by her children Kathy and Larry Argersinger, Steve and Sue Batten, Pat and Karen Batten, Jeanene and Charles Coulon; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild. She was loved by all of them. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, January 6, 2022, at 2 p.m., at Risen Son Christian Village.

Joan participated in our Sr. Adults Ministry at First Christian Church and was a faithful attendee of our "Evergreen" Sunday School class. She was always so sweet and pleasant and encouraged others by her life and her faith.

I remember that lovely smile from when you were a nurse in the OB department. Rest in peace Joan.

Joan Batten was a wonderful soul. She was fun to be around. I have been blessed to know her. I am happy for her as I know she is in the presence of God.
