Molly McGinn Obituary

Molly Ann McGinn

May 18, 1965 - June 19, 2025

Molly McGinn, of Council Bluffs, was born May 18, 1965, and passed away peacefully June 19, 2025.

Molly lived with Cleidocranioaldystosis, a rare genetic, not inherited, disorder affecting many organ systems with growth and hormonal abnormalities, accompanied by intellectual and mental impairments. Whatever affected Molly, it never affected her. She had many friends through her years as a student at St. Albert and her work at the Vocational Development Center in Council Bluffs. Molly was a volunteer at Mercy Hospital for more than 20 years. She also enjoyed the friendships and support of her large extended family. She was a dedicated sports fan, rooting for her beloved Creighton Bluejays basketball team, as well as the Nebraska Cornhuskers and Notre Dame Fighting Irish football teams, and Marquette Golden Eagles basketball program.

She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph F. McGinn; sister, Margaret Rose (Peggy) McGinn; and brother-in-law, John Patrick Taphorn. She is survived by six siblings, Dan (Patti) Salvo-McGinn, Bill McGinn, M. Kate McGinn, Kevin (Laura Marks) McGinn, Sheila (the late John) Taphorn, and Jennifer (Brian) Healy; nine nieces and nephews.

A wake service will be held Thursday, June 26, from 5 to 7 p.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 1 Bluff Street, in Council Bluffs. A funeral service will be held at St. Peter's at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 27. Memorials suggested to the CHI Mercy Foundation for the Mercy Nursing Scholarship Program or the doner's favorite charity.

Molly was such a treasure in the halls of St.Albert“s High School. She always greeted me with her sweet, warm smile and often a hug. I remember listening to her talk in detail about her sports heroes and how much joy this brought her. Molly had a big heart and was loved by so many people. So sorry for your loss. Hoping you can find comfort in knowing what an amazing person you shared with all of us. Sorry your hearts are so heavy. Sincerely, ~Joanne Beraldi

I attended school with Molly for many years starting at Montessori then St Albert's. She had such heart and empathy for everyone she encountered. Molly will be missed greatly and loved always by those who were lucky enough to know her. Beth Tanous Tomonelli
