River Vale - A. Jordan DeFlora "George", 88, of River Vale, NJ, passed away on Saturday, September 29, 2018. He was born in Teaneck, NJ, November 29, 1929, to Jordan and Rose DeFlora. He graduated from Bergenfield High School, and attended St. Bonaventure University. He was a fishing and hunting guide in Maine and worked for Singer Sewing Machines and Wise Potato Chips. After he married his beloved wife Josephine (Jay) in 1956, he ran the 500 acre family apple farm in Hyde Park, NY. While there, he built the 80 acre DeFlora Brothers Lake. In 1962, he and his family moved to Closter, NJ, where he owned and operated Garden Gate Farms. After selling the business, he managed the catering at Stony Brook Country Club in Hillsdale, NJ. Thereafter, he managed and owned apartments buildings in NY, NJ, and PA. Throughout his life, he loved to travel and was an avid fisherman, enjoying fishing, clamming, and crabbing in Maine, Long Island and the Jersey Shore. He shared 62 wonderful years with his beloved wife Jay. He is also survived by his children Jordan DeFlora and his wife Laura, Frank DeFlora and his wife Laura, and Rosemary Metz and her husband Al. He was loving grandfather of Patrick, George, Sarah, Angelo, Tom, Nick and Jacqueline. He is also survived by his sister, Camille Lee. The family will receive their relatives and friends at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood, NJ on Wednesday, October 3, 2-4 and 7-9 PM. The Funeral Mass celebrating George's life and faith will be held at St. John the Baptist R.C. Church, Hillsdale, NJ on Thursday, October 4 at 10AM. Entombment will follow at Garden of Memories, Twp. of Washington, NJ.
