George Mortimer Obituary

MORTIMER
George J., Jr., of Tucson, AZ, formerly of Ridgewood, NJ, passed away peacefully at home after a brief illness on May 21, 2014, at 78 years young.
George was born in New York City to his mother, Mary M. Mortimer (nee McAuliffe) and his father George J. Mortimer, Sr. Following the death of his mom, he was lovingly raised by his mother, Gunde Mortimer (nee Ruppenstein). The family then relocated to Ridgewood where he grew up. He attended Ridgewood High School, and later received his degree from Seton Hall University. He initially worked for Barton Press in Newark, which ultimately led him to the paper industry, where he enjoyed a long and successful career with International Paper, Hammermill Paper, Gilbert Paper and finally as a retiree from Mohawk Fine Papers.
George was well known for his larger than life personality, and greatly enjoyed time spent with a large network of friends, family, and business colleagues; all of whom will remember him for his smile, wit and friendship. He was a true "people person" who enjoyed golf, fishing, football, and travel. George was a past member of Upper Montclair Country Club. If you were lucky enough to meet George, you will most assuredly never forget him.
George leaves behind his beloved wife Adrienne (nee Moore), daughters Kathie, Crissie Turso and her husband Michael, and Julie Forrest, his sister Sylvia, sister-in-law, Barbara, grandchildren Grace, Michael, Max, Carly, and Kelly, as well as many special nieces, nephews and friends. Cremation was private.
There will be a memorial service to celebrate George's life in NJ this fall. Donations may be made to the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona-P.O. Box 26727, Tucson, AZ 85726, or Gospel Rescue Mission-707 W Miracle Mile, Tucson, AZ 85705 in George's memory.

I am so saddened to hear this.... George was a gentleman, and he was a someone who touched many lives (mine included). We had many wonderful years working together. He always made me feel as if I was the most important person he needed to talk to while at the mill.
My deepest thoughts and prayers are with the Mortimer Family.
