Geraldine Garner Obituary
Geraldine Garner (nee Monahan) 96, of Rutherford formerly of Jersey City, passed away Tuesday May 29th, 2018. Born in Jersey City to George and Mary Monahan in 1922. Geraldine remained in Jersey City until 1969, before she and her husband Michael moved to Rutherford, New Jersey.
Geraldine was a wonderful and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother whose smile widened when surrounded by family. She is best known by her 21 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren for her warm, embracing bear hugs and eager attention to their stories. Her adventures with family included extensive travel throughout the United States and abroad.
She drew strength from her Catholic faith and belief in prayer. Her Rosary beads were never far away. Although, presented by a number of challenges throughout her life, she remained positive and provided the same loving support she found in her faith. Her family knew where to go for encouragement, love and a warm embrace.
Geraldine is predeceased by her husband Michael James Garner (1982), her son George Garner (2000), and siblings Jean Wooton, Mildred Foley, George Monahan and Robert Monahan. She is survived by her loving and devoted children; Michael & wife Barbara, Robert & wife Karen, Maureen & husband Thomas Farrell, Gerard & wife Kerri, Geraldine & husband John Farrell, Lorraine wife to the late Michael Mellody, Mary & husband Gary Falzarano, Timothy, Patrick, Adele wife to the late George Garner.
Family and friends will be received, Friday 4-8pm at the Calhoun-Mania Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Avenue, Rutherford.
Funeral services begin Saturday 9am from funeral home and a 10am Mass of Christian Liturgy in The Church of Saint Mary, Rutherford. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, No. Arlington.
