John Fortunato Obituary

FORTUNATO
John Anthony, 68, passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at his home in Springfield, VT. He was born April 30, 1945 in Brooklyn, New York the son of Michael and Lucy (Tempera) Fortu-nato. He attended schools in Brooklyn and graduated from John Jay High School and later graduated from the I.B.M. School for Technicians.
He was married to Cathi Dunderman Stalter in 1966, and later married Marianne Marolda on March 13, 1999 in River Edge, NJ.
He was a Drummer for the Manhattans, and even received a drum lesson from Gene Krupa. John worked for the Port Authority as a runway flagger in his younger years. He was later employed by the town of Englewood Cliffs, Thomas J. Lipton, Electrolux Corp., and finally retired to Vermont in 2002.
John was a volunteer Fire Fighter for the Town of Englewood Cliffs, NJ for ten years, serving as Chief from 1973 to 1975. He also volunteered with the Holy Trinity Youth Group. He was a NY Mets fan and enjoyed ribbing his friends and family.
He is survived by his wife and best friend Marianne; son, Steven Fortunato (Lisa), of Fort Lee, NJ; daughter, Dianne Fortunato Braatz, of Stamford, CT; three step-sons: William Marolda of Pompton Plains, NJ, Mark Marolda (Jennifer) of Hawthorne, NJ and Jim Marolda (Hana) of Wayne, NJ; two grandsons, seven grand-daughters; foster brother, Victor Lopez of Staten Island, NY; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents, a brother, Peter Fortunato, and a foster sister, Marilyn Lopez.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 1:00PM on Friday November 22, 2013 at St. Mary's Catholic Church on in Springfield, VT followed by a Celebration of Life reception from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at the United Methodist Church on Valley St. in Springfield, VT.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in John's name to the Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice of Vermont & N.H. P.O. Box 976 White River Jct., VT. 05001.
