Richard "Rick" Franz, 68, of Napoleon, Ohio, passed away at his home, surrounded by his family on Aug. 23, 2025.
He was born in Napoleon on Sept. 14, 1956, to the late Edwin and Mildred (Sickmiller) Franz. On June 2, 1978, Richard married Bonnie Spieth.
Rick was a graduate of Napoleon High School and Four County Joint Vocational School, where he began his career as a welder. He worked for Gilson Screen as a welder and retired in 2023 as a plant supervisor. Rick also ran his own business as Rick's Welding and fabrication for local farmers.
Rick farmed with his father and twin brother, Ron, until 1986. He was a member of the Napoleon Church of the Nazarene and enjoyed camping, fishing and a few rounds of golf.
Rick is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Bonnie; children, Michael (Jennifer) Franz and Ernie (Jaclyn) Franz; grandchildren, Addison, Oliver, Simon and Matilda; siblings, Judy Pierce, Dennis (Coleen) Franz and Ron (Deb) Franz; many nieces and nephews; and faithful canine companion, Theo.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Janice Thompson; and brother-in-law, Jerry Pierce.
Friends and family will be received at the Napoleon Church of the Nazarene, 630 Appian Ave., on Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2025, from 2-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the church on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2025, at 11 a.m., with an hour of visitation prior to services.
Memorial contributions may be made to Napoleon Church of the Nazarene or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
