DANIEL THOMPSON 1948 - 2016
Canterbury - Daniel Thompson, of Canterbury, beloved husband of Mary (Auger) Thompson, owner of Danny's Depot Diner died unexpectedly on June 3, 2016. He was born February 28, 1948, in Norwich, a son of the late Nathaniel R. Thompson II and Maxine (Grove) Thompson.
Danny was self employed for more than 30 years, retiring in 2006. He was a member of Northeast Rock Busters and Quinebaug Valley Engineers Association. Danny loved operating and repairing antique equipment and was an avid train collector. He also liked meeting his friends on Wednesday's at Yaworski's Haul of Fame Truck Museum.
Besides his wife, he leaves a stepson, Joseph Provost, Jr. of Griswold; a stepdaughter and son-in-law, Lyn and David Hauswirth of Crownsville, MD; grandchildren Ryan and Chelsea Hauswirth; a brother, Nathaniel R. Thompson III of Glasgo; 4 sisters, Sandra Perkins of Colchester, Priscilla Shultz of FL, Barbara Page of Uncasville and Virginia Attwood of SC; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by 2 sisters Joyce Sterling and Elaine Thompson.
Memorial visiting hours are Saturday, June 18, 2016, from 1-4 PM at Dougherty Bros. Funeral Home, 595 Norwich Rd. Plainfield. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in memory of Danny Thompson may be made to PAWS Cat and Kitten Rescue, PO Box 191, Eastford, CT 06242 or Wings of Freedom Animal Rescue, 3 Zvingilas Court, PO Box 172, Griswold, CT 06351. www.doughertybrosfuneralhome.com

Danny was and always will be one of the people THAT I Admire He was a very good gentleman.He was good to mary and her children.HE LOVED HIS LITTLE DOG THAT WENT WITH HIM ON THE ROAD. HE WAS A GOOD FRIEND OF MY HUSBAND AND MY SON DANNY. WE ALL MISS HIM IT WAS SUCH A TRAGEDY TO LOSE HIM.
I HOPE HE MADE GOOD FRIENDS ON THE OTHER SIDE.HE PROBABLY IS WORKING ON TRACTORS OR TRUCKS SOMEWHERE. THAT WAS A PASSION FOR HIM. GOD BE WITH YOU DANNY

Mary, my love and support will be with you always. I always felt safe working late at the shop knowing Danny was next door and he would come out to say goodbye when I left. He will be missed.
