Samantha Campbell Obituary

Samantha Campbell 1987 - 2020
Norwich - Samantha Campbell, 33, of Norwich- town, CT, lost her battle with addiction on Tuesday, December 15th 2020. She was born and grew up here in Norwichtown. She was the daughter of Pamela (Jones) Campbell and Samuel Campbell, both of Norwich.
She was preceded in death by both her paternal and maternal grandparents, two of her uncles, an aunt, a cousin, and her beloved Miniature Schnauzer, Barney.
She is survived by her parents, sister Meghan, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and godchildren. Her family does not want to remember Samantha for her struggles as she was much more than the demons that consumed her. She will be remembered as the little girl with the brightest smile in the room and the most infectious giggle. They will remember her for the joy and love that radiated from deep within her and was palpable to all her came in contact with her. They will remember her for her way with children, her absolute patience with them, her love of being around them, and the love and trust they had for her in return. She was especially in love with her godson Cole and her cousin Anthony. She will be remembered her for her love of dance and how much she loved dancing at "All the Right Moves" with Miss Dana. She loved traveling and some of her most favorite times were her trips to Europe, exploring different cultures, architecture, food and shopping. She will, of course, also be remembered for her stubbornness and sass as she was not just sweetness and light, but came with a healthy dose of sarcasm and the deepest eye roll you've ever seen. She will be remembered for the light she was before the darkness found her, as the darkness was not who she was, it was just what she fought and lost. There is some peace, however small, in knowing that the ugliness of this world cannot reach her anymore; that she is free from that pain and is finally at peace. Her family believes that she has come full circle and is now their own guiding light that will be waiting for them to welcome them home. We never expect addiction to kill our loved ones. There is this dangerous idea that addicts are a separate category of people. But the truth is, there are only people, and we all know someone who is vulnerable to this disease. So, although her family is absolutely shattered and heartbroken, they are not ashamed! A part of them has died with Samantha and they will mourn her loss and what may have been every day for the rest of their lives.
Services will be held on December 28th at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Norwichtown, CT. Followed immediately by the burial at Maplewood Cemetery. Please note that all social distancing guidelines will be followed and masks will be required in the church. There will be no gathering after and the family will instead have a celebration of her life in, hopefully, the near future. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, that you please send donations in her name to SCADD (Southeastern Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence). All donations will be used to support treatment programs here in southeastern Connecticut. Memorial Donations can be sent to: SCADD Administrative Offices, 37 Camp Mooween Road, Lebanon, CT. 06249. Guillot Funeral Home of Taftville is in charge of arrangements.

ATRM is very saddened to hear this news of Samantha.
Pam we are sending comfort, love and healing to you and your entire family.
Samantha was a beautiful dancer with so much love for dance. She always held it close to heart and that made class very important to her.
I will never forget hearing that very contagious laugh that kept all of us going. We had so many fun dance memories going to Competitions, The annual Albano Nutcracker at Mohegan Sun and local dance performances. You were always right there by her side cheering her on and the rest of your ATRM dance family. I will always remember her beautiful smile each time she walked through those doors. We will miss Sam’s big heart and beautiful soul ❤

I didn't know Samantha but I want to say how brave your family is to share her battle with addiction. My husband and I just retired from several years of Addiction Medicine and hope that your willingness to let others know that there really can be a terrible end to addiction might help some of those struggling with this battle to seek help, for themselves and their families. Our prayers are with you, we are so very sorry for your loss.

I no longer live in Norwich, but regularly read the obituary column in case friends appear.
I didn’t know Samantha, but want to thank her family for the most honest and supportive expressions of continued love I have ever read in this column.
Your understanding and acceptance of Samantha’s Illness and willingness to be public about it are inspiring, and hopefully will lead other families to follow suit.
Many will gain from better understanding and awareness of addiction in its many forms, and maybe many can be saved.
Your obituary is as beautiful as your heartbreak is real.
Much love to you,
Rick Crootof
