Eleanor L. Linderman Dikeman

1916 - 2007

Eleanor L. Linderman Dikeman, age 91, of North Platte, passed away Oct. 8, 2007, at Great Plains Regional Medical Center.

She was born March 15, 1916, two miles south of the Logan and Lincoln County line in a sod house on the Zell Russel land which Fred and Ethel Linderman were living on while their new house was being built, which was one half mile north on land they purchased in 1915.

Eleanor graduated from eighth grade at the White Plains country school in 1930 and Stapleton Baker Rural High School in 1934. After graduation, she taught the following fall at Barrett Country School. She also taught at Birdwood Country School for two years and worked for Star Green when she was married to Melvin Dikeman of Hershey on Nov. 4, 1937. They lived north of Hershey and farmed until 1944 when they moved onto their ranch on Birdwood Creek where they resided until 2001. They sold their ranch because of health problems, and moved into Premier Estates and later to Linden Court.

Melvin passed away Easter Sunday of 2007.

Eleanor is survived by her sisters, Leota Campbell and Winnie Janecek of North Platte, Maxine Lovitt and Eula Boeser of Stapleton, Jean Spaulding of Oklahoma and Joyce (Irvin) Fletcher of Sargent; brother-in-law, Lane (Kathleen) Dikeman of North Platte; sisters-in-law, Florence H. Tillman of Hershey, Rita Shimmin of Ogallala and Marie Bortner of North Platte.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Dikeman; her parents; a brother, Jake Linderman; sisters, Cleora Saul and Lela Wade.

A memorial has been established by the Sutherland Rodeo Committee for All Around Champion Memorial Buckle to be awarded at the Sutherland Rodeo on July 4, 2008.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Adams & Swanson Chapel.

Visitation will be from noon until 9 p.m. today and from noon until 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home.
