Samuel F. Fullerton Sr.

1939 - 2012

Samuel F. Fullerton, Sr., 73, of Woodstock, VA, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family after a valiant battle with lung cancer.

Sam was born May 18, 1939 in Clifton, VA, son of Meredith Munson Fullerton, Sr. and Ada Irene Ambler Fullerton.

As a child, Sam loved swimming in Clifton Creek and hanging out with friends at his grandfather's barn. In 1954, he met Stella Roberta Lacy at a Clifton Fire Hall dance and they were married on July 7, 1956 at the Presbyterian Church in Herndon, VA. Together they have lived in Clifton, Manassas, Bentonville and Woodstock, VA. Sam worked as a land surveyor and Fairfax County firefighter, and he retired from industrial pipe covering in 1985. After 16 years of faithful service, he retired in 2001 as Vice President of Summit Roofing Contractors Inc. of Manassas, VA.

Sam enjoyed being with family especially on the annual beach trip. He also enjoyed cattle farming, reading historical literature, going fishing and watching the NY Yankees. His quick wit and sense of humor will long be remembered.

Sam was a dedicated Mason and a member of Manasseh Lodge #182 since October 11, 1969. He served as Master of Unity Lodge #146 in 1994. He is a member in perpetuity of Edinburg Lodge #135 and an honorary member of Washington Lodge #78.

Sam is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Stella, their son, Samuel F. Fullerton, Jr. and his wife Patricia of Gainesville, VA, daughter, Jacqueline A. Cole and fiance Rocky Spear of Manassas, VA, and daughter, Sharon F. Flutsch and husband Juan of Clifton, VA.

Sam is also survived by 15 grandchildren, Shannon Dempsey, Erin Tracy, Samuel P. Fullerton, Alison Fullerton, Jennifer Short, Heather Higgins, Michael Cole, Andrew Cole, Joseph M. Ortiz, Tara Day, Christen Collymore, Aimee Ortiz, Dawn Champ, Alex Flutsch, Steven Flutsch and 26 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Meredith M. Fullerton Jr., James C. Fullerton, and Blanche R. Sisk.

Surviving siblings are Josephine M. Andes, Robert C. Fullerton, Shirley J. Mock and Benjamin N. Fullerton.

Services will be held Friday, August 10, at 11 a.m. at Dellinger Funeral Home, 157 N. Main Street, Woodstock, VA, with interment immediately following at Sunset View Memorial Gardens. Pastor Freddie Helsley of St. Luke Brethren will officiate at the services.

Pallbearers will be Sam's grandsons, Samuel P. Fullerton, Michael Cole, Andrew Cole, SGT Joseph M. Ortiz, PFC Alex Flutsch and Steven Flutsch.

The family will receive friends Thursday, August 9, 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
