David Min Obituary

DR. DAVID MIN MUNSTER, IN

Dr. Min practiced Obstetrics and Gynecology for 39 years, delivering multiple generations of children for families in the Calumet Region. Min was an innovator and inventor having worked with Dr. Ora Marks to pioneer the Lamaze method to expectant mothers in Northwest Indiana in the late '60s and then introducing the Le Boyer method of gentle birth to the region in 1981. In 1999 Dr. Min was able to combine his profession as an obstetrician with his love of music when he was granted the patent for his Rock-a-Bye Music System. A portable music system designed to give expectant mothers the ability to share classical music such as Mozart with their babies in-utero. Highly regarded, the invention was affectionately described by ABC News as "wombTunes". Dr. David Min was born July 22, 1928 in Seoul, Korea. A graduate of Yonsei University, he moved to the United States with his parents and siblings in 1948. His father Edward (Heui Sik) Min was the Republic of Korea's first Consul General to Los Angeles. Dr. Min served his internship at Edgewater Hospital and his residency at Grant Hospital both in Chicago. He moved to Northwest Indiana in 1968 practicing at St. Catherine's Hospital in East Chicago and then later at Munster's Community Hospital beginning in 1973. He retired from his medical practice in 2001. He is survived by his beloved wife Marie (nee Eenigenburg); his sons: David Min (Julie Ann Lowery-Min), Dr. Michael Min (Julie) and Arnold Min; brothers, William and George Min; and sister, Sally Paik (nee Min); loving family members: Jacqueline Chang-Stroman (Dr. Tae'ni) and Marjorie DeVries (Kevin); grandchildren: Jennifer (Paul) Taylor (nee Min), Edward and Andrew Min; Peyton and Michael Min, Jr.; Anthony (Stephanie) Polley; Jocelyn, Mija, Braxzmyn and Broxzmyn Chang-Stroman; Dylan Marie, Corey and Joah Devries; and great grandchildren: Max Taylor; Vincent and Jolienne Polley. I was suprised to read of Dr. Min's passing, I did not know he was ill. Dr. Min dellivered our daughter 38 yrs. ago. He was a gentle, reassuring, good and kind man. You could not ask for a better dr. Even though I have not seen Dr. Min in many, many years I still can remember the day my daughter was born and Dr. Min saying "push." My condolences to his family, my thoughts and prayers are with you. Dr. Min will be missed, but I know he is in a good place. Cindy Cosmo

He is and has been the best Doctor to have taken so much interest in me and my family. He delivered both of my sons and my eldest son was left a paraplegic at age 4 from a car accident my son is now 32 years old. Dr. Min always inquired and never was in a rush to leave the examining room he also called me personally to tell me about a documentary he came across about paraplegia and new medical facts relating to our situation. What a kind and beautiful man. I know he is in heaven where angels belong! Thank you Marie for taking such great care of Dr. David Min I know how much you love him and he could not have been given a better person to care for him in his time of great needs Dr. Min was blessed to have you in his life. To the family of Dr. Min. I send my love and condolences. He delivered my son 40 years ago and was such a gentle and sweet doctor and person. I remember and still have a Book when my son made his First Holy Communion. The title was "God is Everywhere" They sighned it Dr. and Mrs David Min. What a beautiful gift they gave to him. I will keep him in my daily prayers. He was one of those rare breed that you do not find anymore in Physcians. He was your Dr. but always found time to LISTEN and be that friend when I went through so much at one time. His smile and gentleness was what kept me going to him and even my mother who did not dare go to a Dr. went to him and he saved her life from a tumor he found so quickly. God Bless and May he now Rest In Peace.
Sincerely Teresa Graystone

Dr. Min was such a kind, caring doctor! It doesn't seem so long ago that I sat in his office as he (after ruling out any physiological ailments) patiently talked through some personal problems I was having as a young woman. I only met him that once, but his caring affect has remained with me. Blessings of comfort and strength to all the Min family, and thanks to God for such a dear man.
