Elvus Faught Obituary
Elvus A. "Lefty" Faught, 92 of Whiting, passed away Friday, October 10, 2014 at the Hammond-Whiting Care Center. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Charlotte (nee Kompier); loving father of Garey A. Faught, Phillip A. Faught and Pamela (Larry) Johnson; cherished grandfather of Drew Johnson, Brett (Sherry) Johnson, Keri (Dustin) Pierce and Rachel Johnson; proud great grandpa of Julia and Alex Johnson; dear uncle to numerous nieces and nephews; devoted canine companion, Higgins. He was preceded in death by his son, Gregory C. Faught; siblings, Charles, Garnett, Louise, Minnie and Irene and his canine companions, "Jose", "Gamma", "Kelsey", "Clyde", "Axel" and "Maddie". Elvus Faught was born on July 17, 1922 in Olaton, Kentucky to Charlie and Verdie Faught and was a longtime resident of the Whiting-Robertsdale Community. He honorably served his country during WWII from 1942-46. He attained the rank of Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. He was a rifle sharp-shooter and aircraft mechanic. Elvus received four bronze stars for service in the Pacific Theatre among other commendations. This past spring, he took part in the Chicago Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. to honor WWII Veterans. Elvus was a former employee of the Standard Oil (BP) Whiting Refinery and Sherwin Williams. He was a retiree of the St. Margaret Mercy Healthcare Center, Hammond. Elvus will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. He was a true "jack of all trades", expert auto mechanic and fisherman who enjoyed tinkering around and making home repairs. He was seen daily with his loyal dogs both in the yard and garden and on long walks along the lakefront. Private funeral services were entrusted to the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting. There was no visitation. So sorry for your loss. Enjoyed talking with Mr. Faught when he came to pick up medicine or brought the dogs in to Lakeside Pet Clinic.
